As Nigeria prepares to mark its 66th Independence Anniversary, a bold national initiative is emerging with a clear and transformative mission: to allow Nigerians tell Nigeria’s story in their own voice.

De Ambassadors Global Network (DAGN) led by Chinyelu Ikeaba Obiasor , irs Global Coordinator
in partnership with the African University of Science and Technology and other strategic collaborators have planned a three-week nationwide media and civic engagement designed to inspire reflection, recognition, participation, and national pride.

According to the DAGN initiative represents a movement aimed at reshaping the narrative of Nigeria through the experiences, achievements, and aspirations of its people.

“For decades, Nigeria’s story has often been defined by fragmented headlines, political discourse, economic statistics, and external perceptions. Yet beyond those narratives exists another Nigeria — driven by resilience, innovation, creativity, enterprise, leadership, and hope”, the organisation said.

The network said a major highlight of the initiative is the Operation PVC , Nigeria National Digital Youth Talent Challenge, a nationwide platform designed to discover, elevate, and reward young Nigerian talent across creative, digital, sporting, and innovation sectors.

“Each category carries a powerful national tagline: Music (Nigeria Songs of Hope) Tagline: “Voices That Heal the Nation”. Football Freestyle
Tagline: “Skill Beyond the Game”
Basketball Freestyle Tagline: “Bounce the Future Forward”. Short Film (My Nigeria Story) Tagline: “Every Story Builds the Nation” Skits and Comedy
Tagline: “Laughing Through Our Reality”
Hair Ancestry Tagline: “Roots, Identity, Legacy”
Art Work Tagline: “Painting the Spirit of Nigeria” Fashion Design
Tagline: “Wear the Nation, Shape the Future” Tech and Innovation
Tagline: “Ideas That Power Tomorrow” DAGN said.

In a historic democratic engagement model, Nigerians across the country and the diaspora will participate directly in selecting winners.

All contestants will be showcased on national digital platforms and
Nigerians will decide through their votes.

DAGN said voting will determine finalists and category of winners adding that the approach will ensures transparency, inclusion, and nationwide ownership of the process.

Winners of the Nigeria National Digital Youth Talent Challenge will receive
Cash prizes and startup/creative funding support, Professional contracts with industry partners and collaborators, both National and international exposure opportunities.

“For the first time at this scale, Nigerians will actively participate in selecting and recognising individuals, organisations, and stories that represent the spirit of modern Nigeria.

“At the heart of the campaign is the Nigeria @66 Global Compendium — a prestigious national showcase featuring:
66 exceptional Nigerians at home
66 Nigerians in the diaspora
66 organisations contributing to national development
Beyond an Anniversary Celebration
Organisers describe Nigeria Celebrates @66 as more than a one-time anniversary campaign. It is envisioned as a long-term national platform integrating media, education, technology, civic participation, and strategic storytelling.

“Through its partnership with African University of Science and Technology, the initiative will further promote innovation-driven programming, youth development, and research-oriented engagement”, DAGN said.

The campaign is expected to be launched on May 30, 2026 and will be streamed live via zoom

*American Cleric calls for immediate release

For the second time, the handover of the children illegally taken by Kano state government from an orphanage in the state was sabotaged, Barrister Emmanuel Ogebe, International human rights lawyer. rights lawyer, has said.

Ogebe, a United States based activist, in company of a renowned american cleric and human rights advocate, Dr. William Delvin, said one of the children David Tara, died in custody of the state government due to the negligence.

Dr Delvin condemned the refusal of the. Kano government to release the children despite a court order to that effect.

He called on the state government t to act immediately amd release the children.

Ogebe in his part said in 2019, the children were illegally taken out an Orphanage in the state, Du Merci and have been in the custody of the state government till date.

The case was taken to court and there was a consent judgement of the court that the children should be released to the orphanage.

The court in the consent judgement in March 2025, ordered that those who were of age among the chidden should be allowed to decide, if they want to return to the orphanage or not while the minors among them should be taken back to the orphanage.

According to him, since the judgement was delivered last year, the state government has failed to comply with the judgement.

At a news conference in Abuja, Thursday, he accused the commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Amb. Hajiya Amina Sani Abdullahi, of complicity in the death of Tarfa.

He commended the Attorney-General of Kano state, for the efforts he has made to ensure the release of the children.

Ogebe said, “I have four questions to ask, one of them is simply this: the commissioner for women affairs is currently a suspect in the death of David Tarfa, a thirteen year old boy, whose death is currently being investigated.

“He was among the Christian orphans who was taken and who died on January 28th of this year, she is a suspect in the death of the boy and now she’s insisting on keeping the remaining seven of them.

“They are not only insisting on keeping the remaining seven children, they have refused to release the body of the boy who died for which an autopsy has been ordered.

“The court ordered that she should release 18 children last year and what she had done was to release some of them and instead of releasing the rest, she kept them until one died and then has not released his body.

“My second question is this – and this was question raised by Council for the children, If they were truly coming for a handover, how come they did not come with the belongings of the children, so it was completely a fraud that she perpetrated not only on the children but also on the Attorney General, who in good faith believed that the handover in compliance with the court order was going to happen. The third question I want to ask them is, if the commissioner is claiming that the children were asked if they wanted to go back and they said No and started crying and on the basis of that she decided to keep the children. Where is it in our law in Nigeria that a party will cry and on the basis of the crying of that party, the judgment of the court will be anulled? This is why I say this woman is nothing less than an educated Illiterate, people who have resemblance as if they are educated but they have no concept of democracy, rule of law or human rights. I again, repeat that we are awaiting the judgment of the court, investigating the death of the boy and on that basis, this woman should have nothing to do with these children until the determination of how that boy died in their custody. The report we have was some kind of illness and they said they had no money to take him to the hospital and that was how he died, one week after complaining of the illness.

“Our fourth question is this, where in Nigeria is a government more competent to take care of orphans than a well established NGO, an NGO that has existed for over 32 years in Kano and they have never had such an incident and the ministry of women’s affair could not take care of these children without one of them being burnt in his body or being abandoned in the hospital and then one finally dieing in there hands. This is incompetence in its highest order and I want to reinterate that the government of kano should comply with this order immediately.”

The ongoing legal proceedings involving Asabe Waziri and the Nigeria Police have drawn increasing scrutiny due to persistent delays and allegations of procedural obstruction.

Filed in May 2024 by the Global Integrity Crusade Network (GICN), the case seeks a judicial order compelling the release of a police investigation report into a 2010 incident involving the death of a pregnant woman.

Why the Case Matters

This case is significant because it centers on: Transparency under the Freedom of Information Act (2011), Accountability in unresolved criminal investigations and Judicial efficiency in public interest litigation

Key Concerns Raised by the Plaintiff

The plaintiff has highlighted several issues suggesting obstruction:

Unusual Delays in Proceedings

Despite being a straightforward mandamus application, the case has experienced multiple adjournments over nearly two years.

Limited Engagement by the Police

The Nigeria Police reportedly filed only a conditional appearance and failed to follow up with substantive responses.

Strategic Inclusion of Asabe Waziri

Asabe Waziri joined the suit as a respondent, even though the relief sought is directed at the police.

This move has been interpreted by observers as potentially: Adding complexity to the case, slowing judicial progress and diverting attention from the central issue

Allegations of Influence

While no formal finding has been made, concerns persist that influence may be affecting the pace of justice.

Indicators include: Prolonged inaction on a public interest case, lack of urgency in releasing investigative findings and Repeated procedural setbacks

Call for Reassignment

In January 2026, the plaintiff formally requested that the case be reassigned to another judge to ensure faster resolution.

This step underscores growing frustration and a perceived need for renewed judicial momentum.

Conclusion

The Asabe Waziri case highlights broader systemic issues:
The risk of delay as a form of obstruction, the impact of influence in high-profile cases and the ongoing struggle for transparency and accountability

As the case continues, it serves as a critical test of whether Nigeria’s legal system can deliver timely justice—regardless of status or influence.

The alleged murder case filed by a civil society organisation, the Incorporated Trustees of Global Integrity Crusade Network, GICN, against the Inspector-General of Police and Asabe Waziri has suffered several adjournments.

The plaintiff in the matter has accused the defendants, Asabe Waziri and the Nigeria Police of delaying the matter.

According to the plaintiff, the Nigerian Pice has only filed conditional appearance in the matter about two years since it was instituted

The case, filed on the 18th May, 2024 was assigned to Justice Gladys Olotu but has about five adjournments.

GICN had filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, against the Inspector General of Police, over failure to release the probe report of an “unresolved murder” case involving one Asabe Waziri, a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL.

By the suit marked FHC/ABM/CS/742/2024, the plaintiff (GICN) wants the court to make an order of granting it leave to apply for judicial review by way of order of mandamus compelling the Respondent to forthwith release to the Applicant based on the demand letter dated 2nd May, 2024, the final investigation report of the case involving Asabe Waziri who allegedly hit a pregnant woman, Mrs Shitua Aso, with her car in front of the FCT Police Command, Garki 2, Abuja, on or about 30th May, 2010.

The plaintiff in the suit dated May 29, 2024, is seeking a declaration that the failure, refusal and or neglect by the Respondent to release the information and documents requested for by the Applicant vide their letter to the Respondent dated 27 May, 2024 amounts to a violation of Sections 4 and 5 of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 and therefore unjustifiable, wrongful and illegal.

Since the case was filed in 2024, it has been moving on a snail speed.

GICN has therefore called on the Chief Judge of the court to re-assign the case to another judge.

In a letter dated January 20, 2026, signed by Peter Chidiebere Nworie, the plaintiff is asking the xourt to re-assign the case to another judge.

The plaintiff said in the letter, “We write as Legal Practitioners to The Incorporated Trustees of Global Integrity Crusade Network (GICN), hereinafter referred to as our Client, in respect of the above-mentioned suit. The suit is presently pending before the Federal High Court 2, presided over by Hon. Justice G.K. Olotu.

“From the records, the suit is a simple application for Judicial Review by way of Mandamus, filed on 18th May, 2024, seeking the release of a certain FINAL INVESTIGATION REPORT of the 1st Respondent.

“As it stands, the suit has remained pending for an inordinately long period through no. fault of the Applicant. Despite the Applicant’s consistent diligence, the matter has suffered unnecessary adjournments, largely attributable to the actions of the Respondents.

“It is pertinent to note that Mrs. Asabe Waziri sought and was joined as 2nd Respondent to the suit, notwithstanding that the reliefs sought do not lie against her but are strictly directed at the statutory duty of the 1st Respondent.

“As if that was not enough, the 1* Respondent only filed a Conditional Memorandum of Appearance on 3! October, 2025 and failed to further engage with the proceedings or file and serve substantive processes.

“On 12 January, 2026 the matter came up with the Applicant represented whilst the Respondents never showed up. It happened that His Lordship did not sit on the said date because the court room was being renovated and the matter stands adjourned to 23rd March 2026 for Hearing.

“In the circumstances and without any imputation against the integrity of the Presiding Judge, ou…

The Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Gwarimpa, has ordered parties to maintain status quo in a dispute over a property located at Plot 859A, Cadastral Zone B03, Wuye District, FCT, Abuja.
The property, measuring approximately 70,000m2 is subject of litigation in two suits (SUIT NO. FCT/HC/GWD//49/2026 and SUIT NO. FCT/HC/CV/216/2026) between a property firm, Goldenbird Investment Limited (Claimant) and Promiseland Building and Construction Limited (1st defendant) and Lawrence Emmanuel and the Federal Capital Territory Administration, who are 2nd and 3rd defendants, respectively.
In SUIT NO. FCT/HC/CV/216/2026, between Promiseland Building and Construction Limited & 2 Ors V. Goldenbird Investment Limited & Anor., the court, presided over by Hon. Justice Lesley N. B. Wike, , ordered parties to maintain status quo after Counsel to the Plaintiff, Dr. Lilian Ojimma, complained to the court that despite the pendency of the matter before the court, that Promiseland Building & Construction, aided by officers and men of the Nigeria Police and other agents and thugs, forcefully took possession of the land, and commenced construction of fence and other building activities on the land as well as marketing the property to subscribers.
In the statement of claim filed by O. C. Ali, Esq., dated January 22, 2026, the Claimant stated that it was granted a lease of 50 years on the land in 2007 by the Federal Capital Territory Administration and for which it has complied with the terms and paid ground rent and all necessary fees imposed by government. In addition, the company paid compensation to the natives/indigenes on the land before it took possession in 2007 and has put the land to the permitted and approved use since then without any incident.
The claimant stated that sometime in 2025, the Ministerial Vetting team of the Federal Capital Development authority (FCDA) commenced a process of Vetting/verification of documents issued to Parks Operators and the Claimant duly complied and submitted all its documents for vetting/verification. The claimant also stated that FCDA had claimed that the essence of the exercise was to sanitize Green Areas in conformity with the Abuja Master Plan and the Parks and Recreation Policy that requires development of not more than 18% of development of the total land area. That while the exercise was still ongoing, the FCT Minister, without due process, sub-divided the plot and granted to Promiseland and its sister companies, who forcefully took possession of part of the land and started development activities thereon, while suits filed by the parties are pending.
In the process of taking over possession of the land for private estate development, Promiseland destroyed properties developed on the land by the claimant with due approval from the Department of Development Control. While the suit by Promiseland lays claim to the land based on the recent allocation by the FCT Minister, the Claimant in its case, prayed the court for an Order directing the eviction of the 1st and 2nd defendants, their workmen, agents and privies or any occupant at their instance on property.
The claimant also prayed the court for an order of perpetual injunction preventing the defendants (including their agents, workmen and privies) or any occupant at their instance from further interfering with the Claimant’s legal, beneficial, equitable interest and peaceful possession of the land. The claimant also prayed for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the 3rd Defendant from perfecting any title to plot 859A, Bo3, Cadestral Zone, Wuye measuring approximately 70.000m2 or any party thereof in favour of the 1st and 2nd Defendant.
The Claimant said as an investment company in Nigeria, it invested into the Federal Capital Territory development in 2007, when the company applied for the Allocation of a recreational land/green area for management and development.
The Claimant further stated that upon approval of its application, the claimant executed a Deed of Sub-Lease of Recreational Facilities /Parks with the Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency, Federal Capital Territory Administration, dated the 10th day of July 2007. The FCDA Administration completely jettisoned the vetting exercise it initiated and the unexpired lease on the land that was designed as Green Area under the Abuja Master Plan and granted the land to private companies for residential purpose.
The company, through its Counsel, stated that: “The Claimant avers that the Deed of Sublease and letter of intent granted to the Claimant title over Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, and FCT Abuja, measuring approximately 70,000m’ for 50 years. “The Claimant avers that the company immediately took over possession of the land and paid full compensation to all the indigenes and natives resident in the land, to be permitted to fall trees and develop the land in compliance with Government directives and that their unexpired term of lease right over Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, and FCT Abuja, measuring approximately 70,000m’ stands at 31 years at the time of instituting this suit.
“The Claimant avers that the entire Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, FCT Abuja measuring approximately 70,000m’ is currently preserved and developed by the claimant as a Green Area and operated under the name Golden Bird Park, the usage features an event center wherein a temporary Marquee has been erected on the land, and gazebos.”
“The Claimant avers that the company successfully applied for building approval to develop the entire park inclusive, (Plot 859A) and same was approved on the 6th August 2015 and 25th August 2016 by the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Development Control department.”
The Claimant avers that their interest and possession of Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, and FCT Abuja, measuring approximately 70,000m2 is valid and that the forceful entry of the 1st and 2nd Defendants and their workmen, agents and privies into Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, FCT Abuja measuring approximately 70,000m’ amounts to trespass to land.
The Claimant prayed the court for the following reliefs; A declaration that by virtue of the Letter of Intent dated the 3rd July, 2007 and 10th September, 2014 and the Deed of Sublease executed between the Claimant and the 3rd Defendant on the 10th day of July 2007, the Claimant possess a 50 years lease right over Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, FCT Abuja, measuring approximately 70,000m2 with an unexpired term of 31 years still valid and subsisting and that “by the virtue of the title documents in their possession issued by the 3rd Defendant and physical occupation of Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, FCT Abuja measuring approximately 70,000m’ since the year 2007, the Claimant has valid title for the possession and development of Plot 859A, Bo3 Cadastral Zone, Wuye District, FCT Abuja”.

The Lead Pastor of Champions Faith Assembly, Prophet Joshua Iginla, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the viral statement, “I can never follow a poor pastor,” saying that life is defined by personal choice and perspective.

Iginla made the remarks in a video message titled “The Poor Versus the Rich,” which has since gained traction on social media. Addressing his congregation, he noted that the statement, credited to another pastor, had been misunderstood, stressing that it merely reflected a personal opinion shaped by life experiences.

He explained that while the comment might not have been acceptable years ago, changing realities and exposure influence how people view leadership and prosperity.

“What is wrong with the statement? It is his personal opinion,” Iginla said. “If you want to follow a poor pastor, follow one. If you want to follow a rich pastor, follow one.”

The cleric referenced Proverbs 19:4, arguing that wealth naturally attracts people, while poverty often repels them, noting that scripture itself acknowledges this reality. He also questioned why poverty is often spiritualised while prosperity is viewed with suspicion.

“If I say today the topic of our message is poverty, will you sit down? Do you teach people how to be poor?” he asked.

Iginla emphasised that prosperity should not be confused with spirituality, adding that material possessions do not determine a person’s spiritual depth. According to him, prosperity follows certain principles that anyone who practises them can benefit from, regardless of religious standing.

“You can be poor and make heaven like Lazarus. You can be rich and make heaven like Abraham, David, or Solomon,” he said.

He warned against “terrorising” others for embracing prosperity, insisting that both poverty and wealth are personal choices. The pastor also criticised the over-spiritualisation of financial intelligence in the church, urging pastors to teach practical wealth creation alongside spiritual growth.

The comments come amid widespread debate triggered by a viral video of a pastor declaring he would never follow a poor pastor—a statement that has drawn mixed reactions across social media.

he presiding pastor of the master’s place international church, Pastor Korede Komaiya has said, “The families makes up a nation”.

Komaiya made this known in a recently released video clip message, titled; ALL ROUND FAMILY & MARITAL REST.

Speaking to the congregants, the cleric said; “”The families that makes up a nation are more powerful than the military of that nation”.

” Because, everyone in the military of the nation came from a family, a good home is heaven on earth. A bad home, family, marriage is hell on earth”.

“There’s no rest, if there’s no rest at home, you need to understand that, no one can truly be restful, when the home is not restful”.

“If business is not restful, and you come back home, and there’s rest, you’ll still have rest, where ever you go, you come back home, if home is not having peace then you’ll lack peace”.

“The home is the place where convictions are formed, the home is the place where attitudes are cultivated. The families of a nation will produce the government and teachers of a nation”.

Using this as a background, Komaiya stressed “It is important for you to know that, the home is everything”.

“When the home is not peaceful, society will not be peaceful, the better the families, the better the church, because every body in a church came from a family”.

Pastor Komaiya in a recently released message that generated and attracted alot of accolades has said “Nothing attracts people like loving them”.

Komaiya stressed the superiority of stakeholders to employee and employer relationship and demostrated this by the way, the ministry cares for her workers by giving them 13th month salary and another 50% bonus of their salary in december, 100% full scholarship, free accomodation and 100% health medical care.

All these shows that, leadership is love expressed through administration and care for people’s future.

Abuja, Nigeria – Pilgrims from 109 countries visited the Dunamis International Gospel Centre’s Glory Dome, located along Airport Road in Abuja, in 2025, according to a video clip shown by the church during its Sunday service.

The clip indicated that the visitors came from Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, and were described as spiritual pilgrims seeking prayer, worship, religious instruction, and faith-based encounters.

Dunamis International Gospel Centre hosts several programmes throughout the year, including Nations’ Worship in His Presence, International Ministers Flaming Fire Conference, Kingdom Power and Glory World Conference, 8 Hours in His Presence, and Mid-Year Worship, among others. These programmes regularly attract worshippers from across the globe.

Beyond the spiritual dimension, the visits were said to have significant economic impact for Abuja and its surrounding areas. The influx of international pilgrims contributed to increased patronage of hotels, guest houses, transportation services, restaurants, markets, and other small businesses, particularly during major church programmes.

The sustained flow of foreign visitors also boosted local employment opportunities, especially in hospitality, logistics, and informal commerce.

Despite security and economic challenges facing the country, the Glory Dome continued to attract visitors from around the world throughout the year.

Countries represented included Algeria, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Benin Republic, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others.

Other visiting countries in 2025 included Angola, Bahrain, Botswana, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, Gabon, Greece, Guinea Conakry, Guyana, Honduras, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Niger Republic, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of the Congo, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, South Sudan, Spain, Sudan, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, The Gambia, The Netherlands, The Philippines, Togo, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Vietnam, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

While appreciating God for His help in 2025 during the church’s thanksgiving service, Dr. Paul Enenche announced full university scholarships for orphans, the poor, and indigent members.

The extensive visitation by pilgrims to the Glory Dome formed part of the church’s 2025 prophetic theme, “Dominion – Taking Charge Everywhere,” which guided activities across Dunamis assemblies worldwide.

The year 2025 concluded with the church’s crossover service on December 31, ushering in 2026 with the theme “Reigning as Kings,” anchored on Revelation 1:6.
