To commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, MMELI Arts Foundation, in
collaboration with Alliance Française de Lagos, has held the Women, Words and Wealth
workshop in Ikoyi, bringing together women writers and creatives for an intensive focused on
craft, voice and pathways to publication.
Designed as a practical workshop, the programme focused on helping participants strengthen
creative identity, develop a distinctive voice and navigate publishing opportunities. Sessions
centred on Creative Identity, Developing Your Voice and Publishing Pathways, led by
storyteller and filmmaker Phoenix Ezendu; actor, writer and filmmaker Richard Mofe-
Damijo; and award-winning author and journalist Nina Anyianuka.
Speaking on the workshop’s significance, Richard Mofe-Damijo, chairman of MMELI Arts
Foundation, said the organisation was focused on building structures that move African voices
“beyond potential into tangible influence”, adding that creative talent must be matched with
institutional support to compete globally.
Victor Mark-Onyegbu, head of grants and community building at Africa No Filter, urged
participants to recognise the power of narrative in shaping global perception, and to tell
grounded stories that challenge long-standing stereotypes about the continent.
Founded by Nina Anyianuka, MMELI Arts Foundation says it supports cultural renewal and
professional development for creatives. Partners for the workshop included Nestlé Nigeria,
Rite Foods, Alliance Française Lagos and Africa No Filter.
Anyianuka said the foundation was pushing for greater rigour in creative practice. “The goal
is not simply to encourage expression, but to equip women with the tools to produce work that
can stand in professional and global spaces,” she said.
.“That is why we created Women, Words and Wealth: to help women writers move from private
expression to public authorship, with an emphasis on discipline, structure and intentionality,”
she added.
Participants described the workshop as a timely boost for women in the creative sector,
blending cultural grounding with practical frameworks for building sustainable careers in
storytelling.
Dorothy Ughenu, a television and screenwriter, said: “Women, Words & Wealth was a first-
of-its-kind programme that developed and nurtured a safe space for women in the storytel

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has stated that Christianity has been reduced to a means of extorting church members by some pastors.

In an Easter message signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele made it known that there is too much hate among churches and leaders are more concerned about beautiful edifices instead of instilling the teachings of Jesus Christ.

He stated that there isn’t religious tolerance and religion is one of the things killing and bringing woes to the worship of Christians.

“There is no love in Christianity, there is no religious tolerance, it’s time we put religion aside, it’s killing us in Nigeria and bringing woes to our worship. There is too much hate among churches, and there is no leadership capacity in Christianity again.”

The prophet stated that men of God are looking for ways to acquire wealth and going from country to country. He noted that the world would be a better place if Christian leaders could live as Jesus did, a life of selflessness, love, tolerance, and peace.

“We don’t develop human capacity but edifice. We are looking to acquire wealth and going from country to country for revival. The world would be better if we could emulate the life of Christ.”

Furthermore, Primate Ayodele made it known that the leadership aura in Christianity has drastically reduced, and instead of celebrating a Happy Easter, a lot of Christians are crying.

“There is no sincerity in relationships in Christianity; the leadership aura in Christianity has derailed. There is nothing like Happy Easter because people, Christians, are shedding tears internally.

“Christians are crying because pastors continue to extort members. This isn’t the kind of life Jesus Christ died for.

“Love has finished, good relationship has finished, the spiritual prowess in Christianity is no longer there, there isn’t good leadership in Christendom, there isn’t love anywhere, and genuine God’s presence is rare.”

Held under the distinguished leadership of Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the festival remains a symbolic institution that celebrates the unity, resilience, and historical legacy of Egbaland. It pays tribute to the legendary warrior Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, whose courage and leadership united the Egba people and secured their freedom.

Through this strategic sponsorship, Adron Homes and Properties Limited continues to position itself not only as a leading real estate developer but also as a custodian of culture and a partner in sustaining the traditions that shape communities across Nigeria.

Speaking on the importance of the festival, Oba Gbadebo emphasized that Lisabi serves as a vital platform for preserving the Egba people’s values, traditions, and identity, while inspiring younger generations to remain connected to their cultural roots.

For Adron Homes, the partnership reflects a deliberate alignment with the socio-cultural aspirations of Egbaland. By supporting the festival, the company is contributing meaningfully to the preservation of indigenous heritage, the promotion of unity, and the celebration of a people whose influence continues to shape the cultural landscape of Abeokuta and beyond.

Notably, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State is also home to key Adron Homes developments, including the prestigious Adron Homes Sunrise Park and Gardens located in Alabata, and Southgate Park and Gardens Estate in Alamala. These flagship estates further reinforce the company’s deep-rooted presence and long-term investment in the socio-economic growth of the region.

The 2026 edition of the Lisabi Festival, themed “Integrating Apprenticeship Training into Education: Opportunities and Challenges,” highlights the intersection between tradition and modern development, an area where Adron Homes continues to make an impact through its community-driven initiatives.

The festival will feature a vibrant lineup of cultural and social activities, including the iconic Woro procession, traditional rites, arts and crafts exhibitions, educational programmes, and community engagements, all reflecting the richness of Egba heritage.

Senator Yunus Akintunde, the Distinguished Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el- Fitri

In a statement made available to the media through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Kunle Olatunji, the Senator enjoined Muslims to continue to uphold the values of piety, prayer, love, sacrifice, and benevolence which the holy season represents, noting that these virtues remain central to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Hadith.

Dr. Akintunde expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for His mercies and benevolence, especially throughout the holy period. He also appreciated the opportunity to facilitate meaningful progress for constituents during the period, including the successful facilitation of appointments for some constituents whose letters were released in the NRS, and the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede.

According to the Senator:

“During this year’s Ramadan period, aside from several personal milestones, I am particularly delighted to have facilitated appointments for some of our constituents in the NRS (Nigeria Revenue Services) and Federal Polytechnic, Ayede. Equally gratifying is the commencement of the amendment process on my sponsored Federal Medical Centre Act Amendment Bill to accommodate the Mother and Child Hospital in Ona-Ara Local Government Area. These are landmark achievements recorded within the holy month.”

Senator Akintunde assured the people of Oyo Central that his commitment to doing more for the benefit of the constituency remains unwavering. He emphasized that his office will continue to engage and partner with stakeholders on the implementation of various economic empowerment programmes, human capacity development initiatives, and key capital projects captured in the consolidated budget in the months ahead.

In observance of International Women’s Month 2026, Union Bank of Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to gender equity through a focused initiative centred on women living with disabilities and women raising children with disabilities.
Aligned with the global theme “Give to Gain,” the Bank’s campaign “Give to Gain: Creating Pathways for Inclusion and Endless Opportunities” centres the lived experiences of women living with disabilities and underscores the need for intentional systems of support for social and economic advancement.
Throughout March, Union Bank will implement targeted initiatives to expand access, foster inclusion, and unlock sustainable opportunities. Activities include a flagship event which held at The Stable, its multipurpose venue in Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday. The event convened women with disabilities, caregivers, supporting organisations, and advocates for dialogue, mentorship, and resource sharing.
Complementary efforts include outreach to disability support facilities and collaboration with educational institutions to distribute learning materials to female students with disabilities. Tailored mentorship programmes will build confidence and capability in education, entrepreneurship, and careers. Through its women’s banking proposition alpher and strategic partnerships, the Bank will also deliver business sustainability training specifically designed for women living with disabilities and women raising children with disabilities.
Internally, Union Bank will activate WeHub — its employee-led women’s network — to strengthen inclusive culture and support professional growth across the organisation.
These actions reflect Union Bank’s long-standing commitment to advancing equity for underserved communities — and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender Equality) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities). For Union Bank, these are not frameworks to cite; they are commitments to live out.
Olufunmilola Aluko, Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, Union Bank of Nigeria, stated that
“At Union Bank, inclusion is not an abstract ideal; it is a deliberate choice. While many conversations around women’s empowerment are important and necessary, women living with disabilities and women raising children with disabilities are too often left out entirely. This year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain,’ reflects exactly what we believe: that when we intentionally open access, support, and opportunity to these women, the value created extends to families, communities, and society at large.”
Union Bank’s IWD 2026 campaign is a statement of intent: that true inclusion requires us to go further, reach deeper, and serve those who have waited longest for a seat at the table. In 2026, Union Bank is committed to ensuring that a seat exists — and that it is built to last.

Fidelity Bank Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s economic empowerment with the signing of strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with partner organisations at the launch of the bank’s “Give Her Power” initiative, a programme designed to equip Nigerian women with practical skills, tools, mentorship, and financial knowledge.

The partnerships, formalised as part of activities commemorating the 2026 International Women’s Day, bring together a diverse network of stakeholders: LUSH Hair, Barbergirl Academy School of Barbering, Dee ‘n’ Ell the Shoe Architect, Inter-Bau Foundation, IVM Innoson, National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) and One Universe.

The collaboration is anchored on the Bank’s HerFidelity Apprenticeship Programme, a structured platform created to provide vocational training, business support, and sustainable enterprise opportunities for women across multiple sectors.

Speaking during the event, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, highlighted that the bank’s ‘HerFidelity’ initiative reflects Fidelity Bank’s continued commitment to creating opportunities that empower women to achieve financial independence and build sustainable businesses.

“At Fidelity Bank, we strongly believe that empowering women is not only a social responsibility but also a powerful economic strategy. Through the ‘Give Her Power’ initiative and the HerFidelity Apprenticeship Programme, we are providing women with practical tools, vocational skills and financial knowledge that will enable them to move from effort to earnings and from hustle to sustainable enterprise.”

She explained that the programme will deliver a range of interventions throughout the month of March, including the distribution of 1,000 sewing and grinding machines to support women-led microbusinesses, as well as vocational training in automobile mechanics, interior decoration, barbing, hair making, and shoe making.

Other components of the initiative include professional headshot sessions to strengthen women’s personal and professional brands, mentorship engagements with leading female entrepreneurs, and hands-on skill acquisition training in areas such as makeup artistry, nail care, and traditional headgear tying.

Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe also noted that empowering women economically has ripple effects that extend beyond individual beneficiaries.
“When women are empowered economically, the impact extends far beyond individuals. It strengthens families, grows businesses, and uplifts entire communities. Research suggests that advancing women could add up to $12 trillion to global GDP. This reinforces the need to deliberately create platforms that support women to build sustainable businesses and strengthen their economic independence,” she added.

Applauding the bank’s initiative, the Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, commended Fidelity Bank for its leadership in promoting entrepreneurship and supporting women across the nation.

“This initiative strongly aligns with the Lagos State Government’s commitment to building an inclusive economy where women have access to skills, mentorship and financial opportunities they need to thrive”, Ambrose-Medebem stated.

Her words, “Women remain key drivers of commerce and enterprise across Lagos, from traditional markets to emerging digital sectors. This initiative by Fidelity Bank has ensured that we stayed true to the promoting and supporting women”.

Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, praised Fidelity Bank for championing financial inclusion and economic independence for women.

“Empowering women economically is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty and strengthen communities. We commend Fidelity Bank for this forward-thinking initiative and for demonstrating how collaboration between the private sector and government can create meaningful opportunities for women across the state,” she said.

Representatives of the partner organisations also expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank for the collaboration, noting that the partnership will play a significant role in expanding vocational training opportunities and strengthening entrepreneurship among women.

The Give Her Power initiative is expected to empower hundreds of women through skill development, mentorship, and startup support, while reinforcing the role of women as key contributors to Nigeria’s economic growth.

Ranked among the best banks in Nigeria, Fidelity Bank Plc is a full-fledged Commercial Deposit Money Bank serving over 10 million customers through digital banking channels, its 255 business offices in Nigeria and United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, attention rightly turns to the extraordinary role women play in shaping families, communities, and national economies. Beyond nurturing homes and leading in boardrooms, women are increasingly emerging as powerful drivers of nation-building through one of the most transformative assets of all, property ownership.

Across Nigeria, women are steadily breaking long-standing barriers in business, governance, technology, education, and entrepreneurship. Their expanding economic influence is uplifting households, strengthening institutions, and reinforcing the nation’s financial foundation. The evidence is clear: when women earn, communities prosper; when women invest, societies advance.

One of the most visible expressions of this progress is in real estate acquisition. Property ownership empowers women with security, stability, and the ability to build generational wealth. A home is more than a structure of concrete and steel, it is a platform for legacy, enterprise, social mobility, and long-term influence.

From young professionals purchasing their first plots of land to seasoned executives expanding diversified investment portfolios, Nigerian women are redefining wealth creation and strategic future planning. Their growing presence in the property market signals a cultural and economic shift toward asset-backed empowerment.

Real estate remains one of the safest and most rewarding investment paths, and women are embracing the opportunity with confidence. Their participation is reshaping urban development patterns, influencing housing demand, and stimulating construction, infrastructure growth, and employment value chains nationwide.

At Adron Homes and Properties, empowering women through property ownership is seen as a direct investment in national progress. Every woman who secures land or a home strengthens family stability, fuels economic growth, and inspires future generations to dream bigger and aim higher.

This International Women’s Day, women are celebrated not only for who they are, but for what they build:

* Builders of families
* Drivers of economic growth
* Investors in the future
* Architects of generational wealth

To honor their impact, Adron Homes is expanding access to ownership through flexible payment plans, inclusive investment opportunities, and customer-friendly support services designed to make property acquisition simple, transparent, and rewarding.

Because when women rise, nations thrive. And when women own property, the future is secured.
