The Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in the fight against cultism and unlawful possession of firearms in the State. Acting on a complaint received from one man (name withheld), who stated that he was shot by one Oghenebuba Mamatime, on 21/07/2026 at about 1700hrs, operatives of Jesse Division in a combined effort with some community youths in Jesse, arrested one Oghenebuba Mamatime ‘m’ aged 28yrs, a notorious cultist and member of Eiye Confraternity, who has been on the command wanted list for allegedly shooting the victim on 02/07/2026 along Ujomi Road, Jesse Town. Upon arrest of the suspect, three (3) locally made pistols and one (1) locally made single-barrelled gun were recovered from the suspect. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is a member of Eiye confraternity, was unhappy with the victim over his decision to quit cultism, and in a bid to force him into the confraternity, an argument ensued which led to the shooting. The suspect is in custody, and investigation is ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, PSC, acipm, mnips, commended the synergy between operatives of Jesse Division and the community youths in the fight against cultism and other vices. He admonished them to maintain the synergy, which should not be limited to cultism but should be extended to drug abuse, kidnapping and other serious crimes in their locality. Stella Omonigho Eromosele and her husband, Olufemi George Shodimu, were on Thursday, July 16, 2026, arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, over allegations bordering on conspiracy, assault, destruction of property, and threats to the life of a journalist.

According to the charges presented before the court, the defendants are alleged to have been involved in a conspiracy that resulted in the assault of the journalist, the destruction of her property, and repeated threats to her life. The matter was formally brought before the court for judicial determination, with proceedings commencing in accordance with Nigerian law.

It was further alleged that Stella Omonigho Eromosele,, and other unidentified armed men, went to the journalist’s office with the intention of abducting her. According to the allegations, Stella allegedly showed the journalist’s photograph and details of her vehicle to the gate man at the entrance of the office premises while the unidentified men reportedly waited outside in an attempt to whisk the journalist away.

The alleged kidnapping attempt was reportedly foiled following the swift intervention of the security personnel whose prompt response prevented the situation from escalating further.

The case has generated public interest because it involves allegations of violence and intimidation directed at a member of the press. Advocates for press freedom have consistently emphasized the importance of protecting journalists from threats and ensuring that allegations of attacks against media practitioners are thoroughly investigated and fairly prosecuted through the judicial process.

The defendants appeared before the court to answer the charges brought against them. As with all criminal proceedings, they are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has arrested and arraigned three suspects in connection with the viral video showing the alleged torture of a resident by a community leader and members of a local vigilante group in Emevor Community, Isoko North Local Government Area.

The incident, which was captured in a video widely circulated on social media, immediately drew the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, who directed the Area Commander, Ozoro Area Command, to conduct a swift and discreet investigation. The investigation, which was further reinforced by a petition from concerned human rights activists, established that on 5 July 2026 at about 0815hrs, the suspects, acting in concert with others now at large, unlawfully apprehended the victim and took him to a hotel in Emevor Community, where he was allegedly subjected to severe humiliation, physically assaulted, inflicted with bodily injuries, and allegedly threatened with death.

Upon the conclusion of investigations, the police arrested Lucky Okeremu (48), Chairman of Emevor Community, Okiemute Oyibo (46), and Karo Akamakusi (45). The suspects have since been arraigned before a competent court on charges of conspiracy to commit felony, assault occasioning harm, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and threatening the life of the victim, contrary to Sections 516, 355, 249(e), and 86 respectively of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Vol. I, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniy, psc, acipm, mnips, reiterated that while the command recognises the role of community leaders and vigilante groups in supporting security efforts, no individual or group has the authority to assault, torture, intimidate, or subject any person to unlawful punishment. In a sustained crackdown on criminal activities across the State, the Delta State Police Command has arrested two hundred and two (202) suspects during an intelligence-led raid on identified criminal hideouts within the Asaba metropolis.

The operation, conducted on Saturday, 4 July 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, alongside officers of the command. Acting on credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID), the operatives raided identified black spots, brothels, and suspected illicit drug dens in Asaba metropolis.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females, for offences bordering on operating brothels, possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, and other related crimes. The operatives also impounded five (5) motor vehicles, ten (10) tricycles, and ten (10) motorcycles for violations of extant traffic regulations, the State-imposed restriction on tricycle operations, and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has strongly condemned the violent assault perpetrated against one of its officers by a Volkswagen commercial bus conductor during a routine traffic enforcement operation at Ile-Epo Market, inward Abule-Egba, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The unfortunate incident occurred when a LASTMA patrol team, while carrying out its statutory responsibility of ensuring unobstructed vehicular movement and maintaining order on Lagos roadways, apprehended a Volkswagen commercial bus (LSR 989 XG) for causing severe traffic obstruction at the busy Ile-Epo Market corridor.

The driver of the commercial vehicle vehemently resisted lawful enforcement procedures. In a shocking escalation of events, the vehicle’s conductor, later identified as Mr. Lekan Olasunkanmi, armed himself with a screwdriver and violently attacked a LASTMA officer, inflicting a stab wound during the altercation.

The injured officer was immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility where he received urgent medical attention and is currently responding positively to treatment.

Consequent upon the attack, the matter was promptly reported at the Abattoir Police Division, while the suspect was apprehended and taken into police custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

During the security preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to bringing out the screwdriver and confessed that he mistakenly stabbed the LASTMA officer during the confrontation.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound concern over the increasing trend of hostility and aggression directed at traffic management personnel while discharging their lawful duties.

He unequivocally stated that the Lagos State Government would not tolerate any form of assault, intimidation, harassment or attack against officers entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining sanity and order on public roads.

According to him, “Anyone found attacking LASTMA personnel in the course of their lawful duties will face the full weight of the law. Our officers are deployed across the State to facilitate seamless movement of people, goods and services, as well as to ensure strict compliance with extant traffic regulations. Any act of violence against them constitutes an affront to public order and the rule of law and will not go unpunished.”

Mr. Bakare-Oki further urged motorists, commercial transport operators and other road users to comply with all traffic regulations as stipulated in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, stressing that cooperation with traffic management authorities remains indispensable to achieving a safer, more efficient and more orderly transportation ecosystem.

He however appealed to transport unions, commercial vehicle operators and road users to continually sensitize their members on the importance of respecting law enforcement and traffic management officials.

The Delta State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts to protect critical national infrastructure with the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals and the recovery of vandalised electric cables in Delta State.

On 25 June 2026, at about 1030hrs, operatives of Kwale Police station in a combined effort with members of the vigilante group, acting on credible intelligence that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road, swiftly mobilised to the scene. Upon sighting the team, the suspects attempted to evade arrest. During the ensuing operation, one of the suspects sustained injury and is presently receiving treatment at the hospital, while one of the suspects is in custody.The suspects were later identified as Osakwe Sunday (28yrs) and Ekene Obocha (34yrs).

The vandalised electric cables has been recovered as exhibits.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, over the murder of a former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

Ojajuni said the arrests followed intensive intelligence gathering, technical tracking operations and forensic analysis conducted by detectives investigating the double murder.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that Oyesiku and Adetayo were found dead at the retired broadcaster’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State on June 21, while her Lexus RX 330 vehicle was reported missing from the premises.

Ojajuni said that a report was received at Owode-Egba Police Station at about 4 pm on June 21 concerning suspicious circumstances at Oyesiku’s residence.

“Preliminary information indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged while the security house within the compound was found locked, prompting immediate police intervention,” Ojajuni said.

He explained that detectives who responded to the scene discovered Adetayo’s lifeless body inside the security house, while Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

“The crime scene was scientifically processed. Preliminary investigation further revealed that a Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased was missing from the compound, raising suspicion of robbery and murder,” he added.

The police boss stated that the missing vehicle was recovered on June 22 through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations.

Ojajuni revealed that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene played a crucial role in the investigation.

The Delta State Police Command has recorded notable operational successes in its sustained campaign against violent crime and other criminal activities across the State, resulting in the rescue of a kidnap victim, the arrest of suspected armed robbers, and the recovery of a firearm and hard drugs in separate operations.

1. RESCUE OF KIDNAP VICTIM

Operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKU) successfully rescued a kidnap victim unhurt without the payment of ransom following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The operation was launched following information received by the Command on 11 June 2026 regarding the kidnap of a male victim by armed men at Okpanam on 10 June 2026. Acting swiftly on the report, operatives deployed intelligence assets and commenced a strategic operation aimed at locating the victim and apprehending the perpetrators.
As pressure mounted on the kidnappers through sustained intelligence gathering and operational deployment, the suspects abandoned the victim and fled from their hideout. The victim was rescued unhurt, debriefed, and reunited with his family.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects, while investigation into the incident continues.

2. ARREST OF THREE SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS AND RECOVERY OF ONE LOCALLY FABRICATED BERETTA PISTOL

In a separate development, operatives of the Distress 01 Patrol Team attached to the Department of Operations, while on routine motorised patrol on 12 June 2026 at about 1230hrs in Asaba, intercepted a tricycle conveying three occupants.
The suspects were subjected to a search, during which one locally fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered. The suspects, identified as Ewendeze De-Grace (19), Eruweghene Amede (20), and Chukwuemeka Arinze (21), were immediately arrested.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Aro Bagger Confraternity. The suspects and the recovered firearm are in custody while investigation is ongoing.

3. RECOVERY OF HARD DRUGS AND ARREST OF SUSPECT

In the a continued efforts to curb drug-related crimes, operatives of the Kwale Division, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug distribution point in Kwale on 10 June 2026.
Upon sighting the operatives, two male suspects fled the premises, while one female suspect, identified as Ananyi Vivian, aged 45 years, was arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that the premises were being used for illicit drug-related activities. During interrogation, the suspect admitted being aware of the illegal activities taking place at the location.
Investigation is ongoing, and concerted efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring all persons connected with the operation of the illicit drug point to justice.

The High Court of Delta State of Nigeria, Asaba Judicial Division, has remanded four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate following their arraignment in connection with the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on 26 April, 2026.

The suspects, namely Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike, were earlier arrested in separate intelligence-led operations conducted in Bayelsa and Imo States following painstaking investigations that linked them to the illegal procurement, distribution, and movement of firearms across state lines.

Upon the conclusion of investigations, the Delta State Police Command charged the suspects before the court on a five-count charge.

The charges include
– Unlawful possession of firearm, an offence punishable under Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap R11, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004;

– Unlawful possession of a fabricated Beretta pistol contrary to Section 3 of the same Act;

– Unlawful possession of four rounds of live 9mm ammunition contrary to Section 8 and punishable under Section 27(1)(b)(ii) of the Firearms Act, Cap F28, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004;

– Conspiracy to belong to an unlawful society punishable under Section 516A of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006;

– Membership of the proscribed Black Axe Confraternity contrary to Section 3(1)(b) and punishable under Section 6(2) of the Prohibition and Prescription of Youth Associations and Organisations Law, Cap P16, Vol. 4, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2008.

Following their arraignment, the court ordered that all four defendants be remanded in prison custody pending further proceedings in the matter.

As a follow up on the case of unlawful possession of a berretta pistol recovered at a park in Effurun, Uvwie LGA on 1st May 2026, four suspects who are part of the gun running syndicate namely, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, Amadi Felix Chibuike have been arrested. The suspects were arrested in Bayelsa and Imo state respectively, after a pain staking investigation and intelligence led operations carried out by operatives of the command. The first suspect Emmanuel Chukwuemeka was arrested in Bayelsa on the 4th of May 2026 alongside his friend and roommate whose phone he used as a means of communication to purchase the gun. Emmanuel revealed that he bought the gun from one Amadi Princewill for the sum of Two Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira (#290,000) and sold the gun to one Desmond (at large) for the sum of Three Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira (#380,000) who in turn way billed it to Effurun and contacted Oghenemine Ogidi (now deceased) to collect it and send to Sapele. Following the confession of Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, the second suspect Amadi princewill was trailed and arrested in Imo State on 15th of May 2026. Upon the arrest of Amadi Princewill, and on interrogation, he stated that he bought the gun from one Amadi Felix for the sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (#200,000). Consequently, Amadi Felix was trailed and arrested in Owerri Imo State on 16th may 2026. All suspects are members of black axe confraternity. They will be charged to court upon completion of investigation while manhunt for other suspects including Desmond is still ongoing.
