Access Holdings Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to long-term value creation, financial resilience and disciplined growth, assuring shareholders that its strategic focus remains firmly on building a stronger and more sustainable institution despite a challenging operating environment.

Speaking at the Group’s 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Chairman Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, said the true measure of a financial institution is not simply its ability to grow but its ability to do so profitably, sustainably and with discipline over time.

He said the Group’s 2025 performance reflected a deliberate strategy to strengthen its long-term fundamentals while maintaining solid financial results.

Access Holdings reported a Profit Before Tax of ₦1.007 trillion, supported by the strength of its diversified business model and expanding earnings across key markets. Total assets rose to ₦51.56 trillion while customer deposits recorded strong growth, reinforcing the confidence of customers and the momentum of the franchise.

According to the Chairman, the results should also be viewed in the context of prudent risk management decisions taken during the year. The Group accelerated provisions on legacy and regulatory forbearance credit exposures, leading to higher impairment charges as part of a conscious effort to reinforce its balance sheet and strengthen long-term resilience.

“Periods of economic uncertainty often reveal more about an institution than periods of uninterrupted growth. Our focus remains on building a business that is not only growing, but improving in the quality, resilience and sustainability of its earnings,” Aig-Imoukhuede said.

The AGM also highlighted the continued transformation of Access Holdings beyond traditional banking into a broader financial services ecosystem. While banking remains the Group’s primary earnings driver, businesses spanning investment management, pensions, insurance, consumer finance and digital payments are making increasing contributions to overall performance.

Growth platforms including Access ARM Pensions, Access Insurance Brokers, Oxygen X Finance and Hydrogen Payments continue to expand the Group’s presence across retirement services, consumer lending and digital finance, strengthening its long-term earnings profile.

Looking ahead, Aig-Imoukhuede said the Group’s next phase of development is anchored on its “From Scale to Value” strategy.

“Our strategy, From Scale to Value, reflects the natural evolution of our journey. Scale created opportunity; value creation is how we fully realise it,” he said.

He added that while the Group continues to generate strong returns, its long-term objective is to ensure earnings per share consistently exceed the cost of capital while unlocking the significant unrealised value embedded within its international subsidiaries.

Addressing shareholders’ concerns over dividend payments, the Board clarified that the temporary suspension of dividends resulted from regulatory compliance requirements rather than any weakening of the Group’s financial position.

Aig-Imoukhuede assured shareholders that the Group’s earnings capacity remains robust and reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to resuming dividend payments once the relevant regulatory conditions have been satisfied.

“Our approach is clear: capital retained today must translate into greater value tomorrow and sustainable returns for our shareholders,” he stated.

The AGM also reflected continued progress in governance and leadership succession. During the year, Innocent Ike was appointed Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, while Ibironke Adeyemi joined the Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director.

Shareholders equally commended Bolaji Agbede, Executive Director, Business Development, for her leadership of the management team during her tenure as Acting Group Chief Executive Officer before the appointment of Mr. Ike.

The Chairman noted that the leadership transition was executed seamlessly, ensuring strategic continuity, operational stability and sustained stakeholder confidence.

Despite ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties across its markets, Access Holdings expressed confidence in its strategic positioning, citing disciplined execution, a diversified business model, a strengthened capital base and a clear commitment to sustainable value creation.

Reaffirming the Group’s long-term vision, Aig-Imoukhuede said: “Our responsibility is to justify the confidence of our shareholders by building an institution that endures, one defined by clarity of purpose, discipline of execution and sustainable value creation over time.”

Leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the growth and sustainability of Micro, Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs), positioning itself as a trusted partner beyond traditional banking and financing.

This commitment was reiterated by the bank’s management during a keynote address delivered by the Executive Director, South, Mrs. Pamela Shodipo, at the recently held SME Quarterly Business Forum in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Forum, themed “Scaling Trade and Distribution of Businesses for Sustainable Growth,” brought together entrepreneurs, business owners, industry experts and customers for insightful discussions on strategies for expanding businesses, strengthening distribution networks and unlocking sustainable growth opportunities in Nigeria’s evolving marketplace.

In her address, Shodipo reiterated Fidelity Bank’s commitment to supporting SMEs beyond traditional banking and financing. She stated, “Our objective is clear: to help Nigerian enterprises grow, become more competitive and create sustainable value in their communities and the wider economy. We want to be more than a provider of funds; we want to be your trusted partner in growth,” she said.

Further emphasising the strategic importance of the host city, the bank’s Executive Director described Port Harcourt as a critical economic hub, with significant influence across trade, logistics, marine services, manufacturing, agriculture, and the energy sector.

“Port Harcourt occupies a strategic place in the economic life of Nigeria. It is a major commercial hub, a gateway to the South-South and a city whose influence extends across trade, logistics, marine services, manufacturing, agriculture and energy. Businesses here understand what it means to operate in a dynamic environment, respond to market demand quickly and keep commerce moving,” she said.

Shodipo maintained that, the Forum’s theme was particularly relevant given the vital role trade and distribution businesses play in connecting producers to consumers, supporting supply chains, creating jobs and sustaining livelihoods.

“Trade and distribution businesses play a critical role in the Nigerian economy. They connect producers to consumers, support supply chains, create jobs and sustain livelihoods. In the South-South, this role is even more significant because the region remains one of the vital arteries of commerce in Nigeria, with strong links to ports, industrial activity, wholesale trade and regional distribution networks,” she remarked.

The bank’s Executive Director also highlighted initiatives such as the Fidelity Nigeria International Trade and Creative Connect (FNITCC), which connects businesses to international markets like the UK and US, as well as partnerships with the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and Lagos Business School through the Export Management Programme, alongside the Fidelity SME Hub for advisory support.

In her remarks, Mrs. Ugochi Osinigwe, Divisional Head, Small and Medium-scale Enterprises, Fidelity Bank Plc, said the forum was designed to provide business owners with actionable insights and valuable networking opportunities that can accelerate growth.

“SMEs remain the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, and at Fidelity Bank, we are deliberate about creating platforms that expose entrepreneurs to knowledge, innovation and opportunities that help them build resilient and scalable businesses. This forum reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting SMEs beyond banking by equipping them with the tools and connections needed to thrive in today’s competitive environment,” Osinigwe said.

She encouraged participants to leverage the Bank’s various SME-focused initiatives, advisory services and digital solutions to strengthen their operations and position their businesses for long-term success.

Participants at the forum commended Fidelity Bank for creating a platform that addresses real business challenges and provided practical solutions.

One of the participants, Mr. Andy Macozi, praised the initiative, saying, “The forum was timely and informative. The discussions addressed challenges many business owners face daily, and I believe more entrepreneurs will benefit if Fidelity Bank continues to organize such seminars and knowledge-sharing sessions.”

Also speaking, Chief Uche Aham, an oil and marine services entrepreneur, described the forum as insightful and impactful.

“I commend Fidelity Bank for bringing together business owners to learn and exchange ideas. The sessions were practical and insightful. It would also be helpful if participants could receive comprehensive materials from the forum for future reference and implementation,” he noted.

The Fidelity Bank SME Quarterly Business Forum is the latest of the bank’s initiatives aimed at empowering entrepreneurs, fostering innovation and driving sustainable economic development across Nigeria.

Ranked among the best banks in Nigeria, Fidelity Bank Plc is a full-fledged Commercial Deposit Money Bank serving over 10 million customers through digital banking channels, its 255 business offices in Nigeria and United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

The Bank is a recipient of multiple local and international awards, including the 2025 Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Innovation Award for MSME support; Best Retail and SME Bank Award from Independent Newspapers; Best Bank for Export & Trade Finance and Most Innovative Bank of the Year at the 2025 BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards; and Nigeria’s Best Private Bank at the 2025 Euromoney Awards.
Unity, Patriotism and Diaspora Engagement Take Centre Stage as Nigerians in Asia Rally Behind President Tinubu’s Vision

In a remarkable display of unity, patriotism, cultural pride and diaspora engagement, members of the Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju (NAAS) movement, alongside supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, gathered in Saitama, Japan, for the highly anticipated Renewed Hope Barbecue 2026. The event was championed by prominent Nigerian community leader Shonde A. Samuel, popularly known as Sammy Japan who serves as the Vice President of the Nigerian Union Japan and the President of the Nigerian Union Kyushu. According to Samuel, Tokyo serves as the headquarters of the Nigerian Union in Japan and hosts the Nigerian Embassy, with the national leadership of the Union based there. He explained that the Union operates through regional structures across various cities and prefectures, with Kyushu comprising communities in Fukuoka, Kitakyushu, Kumamoto, Kagoshima and other surrounding areas. As President of the Kyushu chapter, Samuel oversees activities within the region and reports directly to the national leadership in Tokyo in his capacity as Vice President of the Nigerian Union Japan.

The gathering, designed to celebrate community, strengthen bonds among Nigerians abroad, and promote support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria, attracted Nigerians from various parts of Japan and across Asia. The colorful event, which took place on May 10, 2026, at 5-Chome Tsukagoshi, Warabi Seiri Park 11, Eyaleti 18, Saitama, Japan, created a vibrant atmosphere of fellowship, networking, cultural exchange and political engagement.

Organized under the banner of Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju (NAAS), the gathering brought together members of the Nigerian community, invited guests, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), advocates of President Tinubu’s administration, and individuals interested in fostering stronger connections between Nigerians in the diaspora and their homeland.

A Celebration of Renewed Hope Beyond Borders:
The Renewed Hope Barbecue was more than just a social gathering. It served as a strategic platform for Nigerians residing in Asia to reaffirm their commitment to national development and demonstrate support for the policies and vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Against the backdrop of Nigerian and Japanese symbolism displayed at the venue, participants celebrated the growing influence and contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora while discussing ways of contributing positively to Nigeria’s economic, social and political development.

The event reflected the aspirations of many Nigerians living abroad who continue to maintain strong ties with their homeland despite geographical distance.

From community discussions to networking sessions and cultural interactions, attendees emphasized the importance of remaining connected to Nigeria and contributing to the country’s future growth.

The Vision Behind Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju (NAAS):
According to organizers, the core mission of the Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju movement remains clear and focused.

The group seeks to:

Promote unity among Nigerians living across Asia.
Support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Encourage meaningful diaspora participation in Nigeria’s development.
Strengthen relationships between Nigerians abroad and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Foster patriotism and constructive engagement among Nigerians in foreign countries.

By Oluwatoyin Mathnuel

At a press briefing recently held in Lagos by Human Rights activist called Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights Group CHSR under the leadership of President, Comrade Alex Omotehinse, has alleged that certain interests were working to derail the ongoing judicial process surrounding the murder of two indigenous son of Ajiran land; Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, who were killed in separate incidents in April 2023 and August 2024 respectively.
Omotehinse said the organization was compelled to address the media because of what it described as disturbing developments capable of undermining public confidence in the administration of justice.

According to him, the matter has evolved beyond a routine criminal investigation which now represents a broader assessment of the integrity of Nigeria’s law enforcement and judicial institutions.

The CHSR referenced disclosures made by the immediate past Lagos State Commissioner of Police, now Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, during a briefing at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on February 19, 2026.

The group noted that police investigators reopened the case following the emergence of fresh evidence, leading to the arrests of Safiu Fatai, popularly known as “Fabo,” and Yusuf Ismaila, also known as “Bariga,” in January and February 2026 respectively.

According to police findings cited by CHSR, the suspects were linked to the killing of Sheriff Ishola Salami, who was murdered on April 18, 2023, in Moba Town, Eti-Osa, as well as the fatal shooting of Prince Ademola Akinloye along Chevron Road, Ajiran, on August 26, 2024.

Investigators reportedly alleged that Salami was ambushed, abducted to a secluded location and shot multiple times at close range. Police further claimed that a similar operational pattern was employed in the killing of Prince Akinloye.

CHSR also referred to police allegations that the suspects confessed to involvement in both killings and implicated Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi as the alleged sponsor of the attacks. According to the police account, the suspects claimed they were promised financial rewards and other incentives in exchange for carrying out the murders.

The police subsequently declared Akanbi wanted before his eventual arrest and return to Nigeria for further investigation and prosecution.

While commending security agencies for making progress in the case, the rights group expressed concern over delays in prosecution, warning that prolonged legal proceedings could create opportunities for interference and undermine the quest for justice.

“We are alarmed by activities aimed at discrediting legitimate investigations and frustrating the prosecution process,” Omotehinse said. “Civil society advocacy should not become a shield for criminality or a tool for obstructing justice.”

The organization further criticized what it described as coordinated campaigns seeking the release of suspects before the conclusion of legal proceedings, arguing that such actions risk eroding public confidence in the rule of law.

Attention of the media, audience and fellow Nigerians was called on a major issue raised during the briefing concerned an incident that allegedly occurred during court proceedings on June 4, 2026.

CHSR President Omotehinse alleged that operatives attached to the Delta Force Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, acted on complaints from supporters of the principal suspect and directed members of the victims’ families to remove a bus belonging to the Ojomu Royal Family from the court premises over allegations that surveillance equipment had been installed in the vehicle.

The group described the development as troubling, claiming that while restrictions were imposed on relatives of the deceased, supporters of the suspect allegedly moved freely within and around the court premises.

According to CHSR, the incident raises questions regarding neutrality, professionalism and the protection of victims’ rights throughout the trial process.

Speaking emotionally at the briefing, Mrs. Adeola Ogundimu-Akinloye, sister of the late Prince Ademola Akinloye, said the family remained resolute in its pursuit of justice.

She lamented what she described as sustained intimidation and pressure surrounding the case but expressed confidence that the truth would prevail.

“We do not want anything more than justice,” she said. “If justice is not allowed to prevail, then nobody can truly feel safe. We remain confident that truth and justice will ultimately triumph.”

Also speaking, veteran activist Shina Loremikan condemned public campaigns advocating the release of the principal suspect.

Drawing parallels with Nigeria’s historic struggles against colonialism and military dictatorship, Loremikan argued that justice must not be compromised by influence, wealth or political connections.

“The court is not a marketplace where justice can be traded,” he stated. “When innocent people are murdered, society has a responsibility to ensure accountability through lawful means.”

He urged journalists, civil society organisations and members of the public to closely monitor the proceedings and continue demanding transparency and fairness throughout the trial.

The CHSR also called on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, to remain the “.non- compromised Tijani Fatai’ of ages by ensuring prompt arraignment of all suspects and facilitate a seamless judicial process free from undue interference.

In addition, the group advocated increased security deployment in the Ajiran community to ease tensions and reassure residents as the legal proceedings continue.

CHSR maintained that the Ajiran double murder case has become a defining test of institutional credibility and public trust in the nation’s justice system.

“The memories of the victims demand nothing less than full accountability,” Omotehinse stated. “CHSR remains committed to ensuring that justice is neither compromised nor denied. We will continue to engage relevant stakeholders until the matter reaches a lawful and logical conclusion.”

As proceedings continue, public attention remains focused on whether the justice system can navigate allegations, counter-allegations and competing public narratives while guaranteeing a fair, transparent and impartial trial for all parties involved.

Legal observers note that the outcome of the case could have far-reaching implications for public confidence in criminal justice administration, particularly in high-profile homicide cases where allegations of influence and interference often emergency than justice. Omotehinse concluded.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the tragic demise of a commercial bus driver following a fatal multiple-vehicle collision that occurred earlier today at Cele inward Oshodi, Lagos.

The unfortunate accident involved a commercial mini bus “Korokpe,” and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck (EPE 554 YC).

Preliminary investigations conducted by security personnel at the scene revealed that the driver of the commercial mini bus sustained grievous injuries and died instantly due to the devastating impact of the collision.

LASTMA operatives, who were on routine traffic monitoring and surveillance duties within the corridor, swiftly mobilized to the scene to coordinate emergency response efforts, secure the accident site, manage traffic flow and prevent further obstruction along the heavily trafficked route.

In concert with Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Cele-Ijesha Division, the remains of the deceased driver were respectfully recovered and subsequently released to his family members residing within the locality.

As part of concerted efforts to restore normalcy and guarantee public safety, LASTMA personnel promptly evacuated the wreckage and all accident-involved vehicles from the roadway. The vehicles were thereafter handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for exhaustive investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the crash, with a view to determining liability and facilitating any necessary legal proceedings.

Notwithstanding the significant disruption occasioned by the incident, the prompt intervention of LASTMA officers, coupled with the deployment of effective traffic management strategies, ensured the expeditious restoration of free vehicular movement along the affected corridor.

The General Manager of LASTMA conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and admonished motorists, particularly commercial transport operators, to exercise heightened caution, maintain unwavering compliance with extant traffic regulations and cultivate a culture of responsible driving at all times.

Founder and Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has reacted to reports that the Liberian government raised concerns with Nigerian authorities over his prophecies concerning Liberia and its leadership.

The cleric insisted that Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai should focus on addressing the challenges facing his country rather than criticising prophetic messages. He also declared that the President would not secure a second term in office.

Primate Ayodele’s response followed reports that the Government of Liberia allegedly sent a letter to the Nigerian government expressing dissatisfaction with what it described as recurring negative prophecies about President Boakai, his administration, and the Liberian people.

According to the reported complaint, the prophecies, circulated through publications and videos, allegedly fuel anti-Nigerian sentiments among some Liberians and could threaten peace and stability in the country.

The Liberian government also reportedly accused the cleric of involving himself in the country’s political affairs during the 2023 presidential election by publicly supporting one of the candidates.

While acknowledging Nigeria’s commitment to freedom of expression and religious liberty, Liberia reportedly urged Nigerian authorities to exercise caution regarding statements made about friendly nations and to take appropriate action where necessary.

However, reports indicated that Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs distanced itself from the matter. The ministry reportedly maintained that the issue falls outside its constitutional and diplomatic responsibilities.

The ministry also emphasised that the Nigerian government does not censor citizens’ views provided such expressions do not violate the law.

Furthermore, it reportedly described the complaint as a private matter and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to its longstanding bilateral relationship with Liberia.

Reacting to the development, Ayodele defended his prophetic record and recalled his prediction of the defeat of former Liberian President George Weah during the 2023 election.

“I warned George Weah and told him that if the election went into a second round, he would lose. That prophecy came to pass,” he said.

The cleric argued that his prophecies are not politically motivated. Instead, he described them as divine messages intended to guide leaders and nations.

Ayodele also questioned President Boakai’s decision to focus attention on his prophecies rather than on governance and national development.

“You are talking when your country has serious issues to deal with. Instead of concentrating on Liberia’s problems, you are analysing my prophecies,” he stated.

Despite the controversy, the cleric maintained that he would continue to speak on developments concerning Liberia whenever he receives divine revealations from the throne of God.

He also issued a fresh prediction regarding President Boakai’s political future.

“Don’t worry yourself about a second term because you have already lost it,” Ayodele declared.

The cleric reiterated that his prophecies serve as warnings and guidance. According to him, leaders who pay attention to divine counsel often avoid looming challenges, while those who ignore such warnings risk facing the consequences.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has once again underscored its unwavering commitment to public safety and emergency response through the successful rescue and prompt evacuation of a female victim with fractured arm and leg involved in a hit-and-run incident at EFF Bus Stop inward Marwa along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

The unfortunate occurrence, which transpired today, involved an unidentified motorist who reportedly absconded immediately after knocking down the victim, leaving her critically exposed and unattended along the busy expressway.

LASTMA personnel, who were actively engaged in monitoring and regulating vehicular movement within the corridor, swiftly activated a coordinated emergency response by promptly secured the victim from further danger, evacuated her from the carriageway, and immediately alerted officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) while simultaneously implementing strategic traffic control measures to prevent secondary accidents and ensure the uninterrupted flow of traffic.

In a commendable display of inter-agency collaboration, LASAMBUS officials arrived expeditiously at the scene and undertook the safe evacuation of the victim to the General Hospital, Odan, where she was admitted for comprehensive medical evaluation and urgent treatment.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed profound concern over the recurring incidence of hit-and-run cases describing such acts as both morally reprehensible and legally condemnable.

He reaffirmed the Agency’s steadfast resolve to continue protecting lives and property through proactive traffic management strategies and prompt emergency interventions across the State.

According to Bakare-Oki, “Every motorist bears an inherent civic and moral obligation to uphold the sanctity of human life. Fleeing the scene of an accident after causing injury to another road user is not only an abdication of responsibility but also a grievous affront to humanity and the rule of law.”

The General Manager further commended the seamless synergy between LASTMA officers and LASAMBUS personnel noting that their swift and coordinated intervention was instrumental in ensuring the victim’s timely evacuation and the rapid restoration of normal traffic conditions along the affected corridor.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority therefore urges all motorists to exercise utmost caution while driving, strictly comply with extant traffic regulations and promptly report road traffic accidents and emergencies through designated channels to facilitate immediate intervention by relevant authorities.
