The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has officially commenced “Operation GDUMA,” a special enforcement operation aimed at combating the illegal use of fake diplomatic number plates and tackling the persistent violation of overloading across Lagos State.

The operation, which is being conducted simultaneously across eleven states of the Federation, commenced on Monday, 18th May, 2026, and will run through Friday, 22nd May, 2026.

The exercise was flagged off on behalf of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed mni, FCTA, CPFA, by the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Motor Vehicle Administration, ACM Adetunji Oki.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony held at the FRSC Lagos Sector Command, ACM Oki commended the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, for his professionalism, dedication, and sustained commitment to effective road safety administration.

He described Lagos Sector Command as one of the leading Commands in operational performance and enforcement activities nationwide.

The Assistant Corps Marshal reiterated the Corps Marshal’s directive on the ongoing “Operation Guduma: Total War Against Fake Diplomatic Number Plates and Overloading,” noting that the rising cases of insecurity, road traffic crashes, fatalities, and destruction of property associated with such offences remain unacceptable.

He further clarified that the FRSC remains the only authorized body responsible for the production and issuance of approved number plates for recognized government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The Command warned motorists and members of the public against the use of fake and unauthorized number plates with inscriptions such as:

* Ambassador
* NANS
* NYCN
* EYC-AMB
* Agenda 63
among others.

The Corps emphasized that such number plates are illegal and offenders will be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted accordingly.

So far, the operation has recorded:

* 292 offenders arrested
* 143 vehicles impounded
* 149 illegal number plates/items confiscated

The Lagos Sector Command noted that the enforcement exercise conducted across major operational corridors within the state was successful and hitch-free.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and strategic stakeholder collaboration.

Members of the public are encouraged to obey all traffic regulations and report suspicious or fake vehicle registration activities to the nearest FRSC office.
