Unity, Patriotism and Diaspora Engagement Take Centre Stage as Nigerians in Asia Rally Behind President Tinubu’s Vision

In a remarkable display of unity, patriotism, cultural pride and diaspora engagement, members of the Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju (NAAS) movement, alongside supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, gathered in Saitama, Japan, for the highly anticipated Renewed Hope Barbecue 2026. The event was championed by prominent Nigerian community leader Shonde A. Samuel, popularly known as Sammy Japan who serves as the Vice President of the Nigerian Union Japan and the President of the Nigerian Union Kyushu. According to Samuel, Tokyo serves as the headquarters of the Nigerian Union in Japan and hosts the Nigerian Embassy, with the national leadership of the Union based there. He explained that the Union operates through regional structures across various cities and prefectures, with Kyushu comprising communities in Fukuoka, Kitakyushu, Kumamoto, Kagoshima and other surrounding areas. As President of the Kyushu chapter, Samuel oversees activities within the region and reports directly to the national leadership in Tokyo in his capacity as Vice President of the Nigerian Union Japan.

The gathering, designed to celebrate community, strengthen bonds among Nigerians abroad, and promote support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria, attracted Nigerians from various parts of Japan and across Asia. The colorful event, which took place on May 10, 2026, at 5-Chome Tsukagoshi, Warabi Seiri Park 11, Eyaleti 18, Saitama, Japan, created a vibrant atmosphere of fellowship, networking, cultural exchange and political engagement.

Organized under the banner of Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju (NAAS), the gathering brought together members of the Nigerian community, invited guests, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), advocates of President Tinubu’s administration, and individuals interested in fostering stronger connections between Nigerians in the diaspora and their homeland.

A Celebration of Renewed Hope Beyond Borders:
The Renewed Hope Barbecue was more than just a social gathering. It served as a strategic platform for Nigerians residing in Asia to reaffirm their commitment to national development and demonstrate support for the policies and vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Against the backdrop of Nigerian and Japanese symbolism displayed at the venue, participants celebrated the growing influence and contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora while discussing ways of contributing positively to Nigeria’s economic, social and political development.

The event reflected the aspirations of many Nigerians living abroad who continue to maintain strong ties with their homeland despite geographical distance.

From community discussions to networking sessions and cultural interactions, attendees emphasized the importance of remaining connected to Nigeria and contributing to the country’s future growth.

The Vision Behind Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju (NAAS):
According to organizers, the core mission of the Nigerians in Asia for Asiwaju movement remains clear and focused.

The group seeks to:

Promote unity among Nigerians living across Asia.
Support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Encourage meaningful diaspora participation in Nigeria’s development.
Strengthen relationships between Nigerians abroad and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Foster patriotism and constructive engagement among Nigerians in foreign countries.
Create a platform for dialogue, collaboration and national development initiatives among diaspora communities.

Members of the organization believe that Nigerians living outside the country possess valuable experiences, skills, investments and networks that can contribute significantly to national growth.

As such, the group continues to advocate greater diaspora inclusion in policymaking, economic development and nation-building initiatives.

Strong Turnout from the Nigerian Community in Japan:
One of the major highlights of the event was the impressive turnout from members of the Nigerian community across Japan.

Community members traveled from different cities and prefectures to participate in the gathering, underscoring the significance of the event within the Nigerian diaspora community.

The event was led and coordinated by notable members of the Nigerian community, including Shonde A. Samuel, who played a key role in mobilizing participants and facilitating community engagement throughout the program.

Attendees included business owners, professionals, students, entrepreneurs, long-term residents, community leaders and supporters of the Tinubu administration who came together under one banner to celebrate unity and shared aspirations.

The atmosphere throughout the day was described as friendly, inclusive and energetic, with participants exchanging ideas, strengthening existing relationships and forging new connections.

Speeches Focus on Unity, Development and National Progress:
A major component of the program was a series of speeches delivered by organizers, community leaders, invited guests and supporters of the APC administration.

Speakers used the opportunity to discuss issues affecting Nigerians in the diaspora while emphasizing the need for unity and collective responsibility toward national development.

Addressing attendees, organizers highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive image of Nigeria abroad and encouraging greater involvement by Nigerians in Asia in developmental initiatives back home.

Several speakers praised the resilience and achievements of Nigerians living overseas, noting that diaspora communities continue to play a vital role through remittances, investments, knowledge transfer and international representation.

The speakers further stressed the importance of constructive engagement with government institutions and encouraged Nigerians abroad to remain active participants in conversations concerning Nigeria’s future.

Cultural Exchange and Community Bonding:
Beyond politics and policy discussions, the barbecue served as a cultural celebration that reinforced bonds among Nigerians living abroad.

Attendees enjoyed a relaxed environment where conversations extended beyond national issues to include business opportunities, community development projects, youth mentorship, family welfare and cultural preservation.

The event provided an avenue for both longtime residents and newly arrived Nigerians to interact and build meaningful relationships.

Such gatherings have increasingly become important platforms for maintaining cultural identity while helping diaspora members navigate life in foreign countries.

Participants exchanged experiences about living and working in Japan, discussed opportunities for collaboration, and explored ways of strengthening support systems within the Nigerian community.

Speakers encouraged participants to leverage their expertise and global exposure to create opportunities that can benefit communities across Nigeria.

They further emphasized the need for stronger engagement between government institutions and Nigerians residing overseas, noting that diaspora communities remain valuable partners in national transformation.

Renewed Hope Message Resonates Across Asia
The event also demonstrated the growing presence of support networks for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration among Nigerians living across Asia.

Organizers described the gathering as part of broader efforts to maintain engagement among supporters while creating platforms that encourage dialogue, information sharing and collaboration.

Participants expressed optimism about the future and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.

The gathering underscored the belief among attendees that sustainable development requires collaboration between government, private sector stakeholders and diaspora communities.

Looking Ahead:
As the program concluded, participants departed with renewed enthusiasm and a strengthened sense of belonging to a global Nigerian community.

Many attendees expressed hope that future editions of the Renewed Hope Barbecue would attract even greater participation from Nigerians across Asia and serve as a catalyst for expanded diaspora involvement in national development efforts.

The success of the event demonstrated the enduring commitment of Nigerians abroad to remain connected to their roots while contributing meaningfully to the progress of their country.

For many participants, the Renewed Hope Barbecue 2026 was not merely a social gathering—it was a statement of unity, engagement and belief in the power of collective action.

As conversations sparked during the event continue beyond the venue in Saitama, the gathering stands as a testament to the growing role of the Nigerian diaspora in shaping narratives of national development, fostering international relationships, and advancing a shared vision of progress under the banner of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Renewed Hope Barbecue 2026 will be remembered as a landmark gathering that brought together Nigerians in Asia, community leaders, supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and friends of Nigeria in a celebration of unity, patriotism and the enduring spirit of national development beyond borders.
