Delta: CP Abaniwonda Reels Out Security Breakthrough In Month of August

It is our mandate as given to us by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetoku, Ph.D, NPM, that all Deltans sleep with their two eyes closed. Deltans can attest to the fact that in recent times, the state has become very hot for criminals. I continue to assure all Deltans that the command under my watch will not relent in this mandate and will continue to go after criminally minded individuals in the state and ensure that they are arrested and brought to justice.
Below are some of the command’s achievements recorded during the period under review.

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER AND RECOVERY OF BERETTA PISTOL: On 16/8/2025 at about 0511hrs, Operatives of Rapid Response Squad of Delta State Command, while on Stop and Search along DBS Road, Asaba, intercepted one Bassey Udoh, age 39years (m) of Custom Market Asaba, carrying a cross bag. Upon the search of the suspect, an English Beretta pistol was recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a syndicate that usually breaks into people’s homes and cart away their properties, and he bought the gun for the sum of thirty thousand naira (#30,000).
  2. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVERY OF ONE PUMP ACTION GUN, TWO DOUBLE BARRELED GUNS AND CARTRIDGES: on the 21st of August 2025 at about 06:00hrs, operatives of the CP-Decoy Squad, while acting on a credible information, stormed a hideout at Ubulu-Okiti community by Rana Construction Company and arrested three suspects, namely: Igwe Ameachi “m”; Chibuzor Ojiogwu “m”; and Ekene Ibigweh “m”, all from Imo state. During the operation, one pump-action gun, two cartridges and two double-barreled guns were recovered. Suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing.
  3. ARREST OF SUSPECTED IN POSSESSION OF SEVENTY-FIVE ROUNDS OF LIVE CARTRIDGES: On 30/08/2025, Police patrol team attached to Eagle-Net Special Squad, while on routine stop and search duty along Asaba Ibusa road, intercepted a Toyota Sienna car with registration number ASB-615-YF, driven by one Albert Opene ’m’ aged 58 years of Ogbeze str, Ashaka, Delta State. Upon search of the vehicle, seventy-five rounds of live cartridges were recovered underneath the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Suspect was arrested, exhibit recovered, and investigation is ongoing.
  4. ARREST OF AN EX-CONVICT/ROBBERY SUSPECT AND THE RECOVERY OF STOLEN PROPERTIES: On 11/8/2025 at about 1530hrs, Patrol Team of Eagle-Net Special Squad Asaba, while on visibility patrol, received a distressed call on a missing motorcycle. In a coordinated effort with some members of Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NFSS), arrested one Precious Okoro ‘m’, age 27 years of ULO Street, Asaba, and Buhari Deyegu ‘m’, age 18 years of Ibusa road, Asaba and the missing motorcycle was recovered. The said suspect is an ex-convict who was released from Ogwashi-uku correctional facility on the 6th of August 2025 after completing his jail term of two years for a similar offence of stealing a motorcycle. The suspect went back to steal another motorcycle just five days after returning from prison.
  5. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERIES/RECOVERY OF SUSPECTED STOLEN VEHICLES: On 26/08/25 at about 0800hrs, an individual (name withheld) of Agbarho/otor reported that he was robbed by a five-man armed robbery gang, his phones, laptops, 65-inch television, and other valuables were taken from him. The Area Commander Ughelli detailed operatives to investigate. An intelligence-led investigation led to the arrest of one Faith Perry, and one of the stolen phones was recovered from her. She led the operatives to her boyfriend, Kelly Otobure, who gifted her the phone. Upon the arrest of the boyfriend, a search warrant was executed in his house, and the other exhibits stolen from the victim, including a 65-inch Television, PlayStation 4, and mobile phones, were recovered from him. Interrogation of the suspect led to the arrest of the gang leader, Samson Ugbe AKA ‘Big Man’, who has been on the command wanted list, alongside his gang members, Emmanuel Edam, Frank Aminu, Sampson Irorowo and Yahaya Bashir. Also recovered are two suspected stolen vehicles, which were stolen at Ozoro and Orerokpe, respectively. They are allegedly involved in the robbery at Niger Delta University, Oghara, in the year 2024 and the robbery at Oroye warehouse, where over 180 bags of rice were stolen. Suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing.
  6. ARREST OF SUSPECTS IN POSSESSION OF ONE PUMP ACTION GUN AND THREE SINGLE BARRELED GUNS: On the 18th of August 2025, at about 12:30, acting on the strength of a petition written against one Uche Iyameh for the offence of threatening violence and threat to life. The suspect was trailed to Idumu-Odegwe Quarters of Umuolo, Onicha-Ugbo community, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State and was arrested. A search warrant was executed in the premises of the aforementioned suspect, and a single-barreled gun was recovered. Upon interrogation, he confessed that the person who usually sells cartridges to him and he led the operatives from the CP-DECOY squad to the house of one Oyeisi Okafor,” where one pump action gun and two single-barreled guns were also recovered. Investigation is ongoing.
  7. RAID OF DRUGS BARON/RECOVERY OF LARGE CONTROLLED DRUGS: On 29/08/25, men of the Area Command Ughelli embarked on a Raid of suspected criminal hideouts instead of the campaign against the use of Illicit drugs and its subsequent effects on youths in our society. The raid was made possible through credible intelligence in relation to the activities of some persons known for drug peddling within Afisere/Ughelli town. The operatives trailed and arrested a drug baron named Egbule Isioma ‘f’ age 52yrs that operates a chemist Store opposite the Afisere town hall alongside three (3) of her apprentices namely Mercy John ‘f Favour John ‘f Amarachi Ngozi ‘f suspect led the operatives to her house at No. 31 Edile Street Afisere and a search warrant was executed during which the followings exhibits were recovered, Three Hundred and Fifty Five (355) bottles of CSC Codeine, Fifty Seven (57) rolls of 50MG Tramadol capsules, three hundred and thirty five (335) rolls of 100mg tramadol capsules, thirty three (33) rolls of 200mg super royal, seven (7) backwoods five hundred and forty (540) sachets of Swinol capsules, and sixteen (16) cups of Canadian liquid cannabis. Investigation further revealed that the suspect is a major dealer in illicit drugs in Ughelli and environs.
  8. ARREST OF AN ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF TWO SUSPECTED STOLEN VEHICLES: On the 24/08/2025 at about 0700hrs, based on credible intelligence received that some hoodlums were about to sell two Nigerian used vehicles, a Lexus RX350 Jeep and a Mercedes-Benz GLK350 Jeep for Two Million Naira each. The area commander, Ughelli, immediately led a surveillance team to a hotel along Effurun-Sapele Road and arrested one Igenebo John ‘m ’, 35 years of Estako East LGA of Edo State. Upon discreet interrogation, he led the Police to two different locations and the vehicles were recovered. The Mercedes-Benz GLK350 Jeep with REG/NO: ABJ-420-CY, black in colour, was recovered at the Hotel, while the Lexus 350 SUV with Reg/no: RSH-319-CB, white in colour, was recovered at Edu Street, Off Jakpa Road by ECO Bank, all in Uvwie LGA. Preliminary investigation revealed that one Nathaniel Ugbebe ‘M’ Of No 2 Back Of Step-down Amukpe, Sapele, is the owner of one of the vehicles. When contacted, he stated that on 17/08/2025 at about 0225hrs, unknown gunmen numbering about five (5) broke into his house and robbed him of the white colored Lexus RX350 with reg/no: RSH-319-CB and other items. The victim further stated that they transferred the sum of #1,900,000.00 from their mobile app to their MoniePoint POS. Investigation on top gear to arrest the said Ameachi and other members of the gang.
  9. ARREST OF SUSPECTED FRAUDSTERS AND RECOVERY OF SUSPECTED STOLEN VEHICLES/ PHONES: Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the CP-Special assignment team between the 11th and 16th of August 2025, arrested a syndicate of robbers/ fraudsters who specializes in robbing and defrauding unsuspecting victims of their valuable items such as phones, motorcycles, jewelry, and looting of their victims’ bank accounts. The suspect acts in the guise of looking for direction and then hypnotises their victims before extorting and defrauding them. The suspects are Ibrukoko m, aged 32 years, Obruche actor “m’, aged 31 years, Lucky Umukoro m’, 28 years, Emmanuel Buruutu, aged 22 years, Musa Abdulahi m’, aged 27 years, Sokohm, aged 30 years, Preye Julius ‘m’, aged 36 years, and Kadija Abass, aged 30 years. The suspect operates in Warri, Ughelli, and other parts of the state and Edo state. Exhibits recovered from them include two Toyota Camry vehicles with the registration number. LND-809-HE, KSF-61-JU and sixteen suspected stolen iPhones. Preliminary investigation revealed that suspects have so far defrauded their victims of over twenty-three million, five hundred thousand naira (N23,500,000), iPhones stolen by the suspects are about forty-two lady bikes, and the number of victims defrauded so far is twelve. Suspects and exhibits are in custody, and investigation is ongoing.
  10. ARREST OF SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF ELEVEN LADDERS: The DPO Ekpan police, upon receipt of numerous complaints about stolen ladders, where the suspects would come in the guise of being customers and never return with the ladder they hired. The DPO on the 12th of August 2025 detailed operatives who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation and arrested one Esquire Stanley. The suspect stated that he sold the ladder for twenty thousand naira per ladder, for a ladder that normally sells for two hundred and fifty thousand naira (#250,000). Three other victims have also identified the suspects. Further investigation led to the arrest of the receivers, namely Chinedu Okorie ‘m’, Orgi Abara ‘m’, Philip Augustine “m and Obone Jevweu ‘m’, in total, eleven suspected stolen ladders were recovered. Investigation is ongoing. Suspects are in custody.
  11. RECOVERY OF STOLEN MERCEDES BENZ GLK: On 05/08/2025 at about 17:40 hours, the DPO ‘B’ Asaba, received credible intelligence on a suspected stolen Mercedes Benz GLK (Registration Number: NZM10AP) about to be sold at a dealer shop in Asaba. Acting swiftly on this information, the DPO detailed operatives who went on an intelligence-led investigation that culminated in the arrest of one Chinedu Eze, who claimed to be the owner of the vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was registered in April 2023 and registered again in 2025, and that the vehicle was snatched at gunpoint in April 2023 at Abakpa, Enugu State, during which suspected armed robbers shot the rightful owner. The vehicle has been successfully recovered, and the investigation is ongoing.
  12. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS AND RECOVERY OF FIREARMS: On 04/08/2025 at about 0430hrs, the DPO of ogwashi-Uku received a distress call that armed robbers were operating along Chelsea Street, Ogwashi-Ukwu. Acting swiftly, the DPO mobilised the Anti-Crime Squad alongside local vigilante groups to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the armed robbers attempted to escape, but two suspects identified as Thywill Selvin ‘m’ (22 years) of Poly Road, and Guntim Bako ‘m’ (32 years) of Kwale Junction were arrested. During the operation, the following exhibits were recovered from the suspects: One pump action rifle with one live cartridge, one Beretta pistol with six live ammunition, three live assault rifle ammunition, One Daylong motorcycle (REG NO: SAP 369 VK), One Qlink motorcycle (REG NO: URM-750-QV), Twenty-five (25) mobile phones, Four laptops, one tablet phone, one PS4 game console, a home theatre set, two Zealot music players, five bags containing clothes, and other valuables. Some of their victims have identified the suspects. Suspects are in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
