Pastor Daniel Kolawole Olukoya is a Nigerian Christian minister, scientist, author, and the founder and General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), one of the largest Pentecostal churches in Africa known for its strong emphasis on deliverance, prayer, and holiness.

Early Life and Education
Daniel Kolawole Olukoya was born on July 15, 1957, in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, into a devout Christian family. His father, Mr. Olukoya, was a police officer, and his mother, Mrs. Olukoya, was a trader and a committed Christian who played a key role in nurturing his faith from a young age.

He attended St. Jude’s Primary School, Ebute Metta, Lagos, for his primary education and proceeded to Methodist Boys’ High School, Lagos, where he excelled academically. Olukoya was known as a brilliant and disciplined student, traits that would later define his career both as a scientist and a pastor.

After his secondary education, he gained admission to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Microbiology in 1980, becoming one of the best students in his department. His exceptional academic performance earned him a scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies abroad.

He later attended the University of Reading, United Kingdom, where he obtained his Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Molecular Genetics. His research work contributed significantly to the field of genetics and was recognized in academic circles both in Nigeria and internationally.

Career as a Scientist
Upon completing his studies, Dr. Olukoya returned to Nigeria and began his academic career at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos, where he worked as a geneticist. He published several scientific papers in reputable journals and became well respected in his field.

Even as a scientist, he was deeply spiritual and often devoted his time to prayer and Bible study. His growing passion for evangelism eventually led him to full-time ministry.

Founding of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM)
In 1989, Pastor Olukoya founded the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) in his sitting room in Lagos with just 24 members. The ministry grew rapidly due to its unique focus on deliverance prayers, spiritual warfare, and holiness.

MFM became known for its powerful prayer style that emphasizes breaking demonic strongholds, victory over spiritual attacks, and total freedom from evil covenants. The church’s motto is “The Battle Cry Ministries”, reflecting its militant approach to spiritual issues.

The church’s international headquarters, known as The Prayer City, is located along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and serves as the center of massive prayer gatherings, crusades, and deliverance programs attended by thousands of worshippers.

Teachings and Ministry Focus
Pastor Olukoya is known for his deep biblical knowledge and his teachings on deliverance, prayer warfare, and holiness. He strongly emphasizes living a life of purity and total dependence on God. His messages often address the reality of spiritual battles and the need for believers to live victorious Christian lives through prayer and fasting.

He is also a prolific author, having written over 300 Christian books, including popular titles such as:

Prayer Rain

Prayer Passport to Crush Oppression

Revival Fire

Deliverance from Spirit Husband and Wife

The Eagle Christian

His books are widely read across the world and have been translated into multiple languages.

Personal Life
Pastor Olukoya is married to Pastor (Dr.) Shade Olukoya, who is also deeply involved in the ministry and serves as the General Overseer of the MFM Women’s Ministry. The couple has one son, Elijah Toluwani Olukoya.

Despite his global recognition, Pastor Olukoya is known for his humility, simplicity, and dedication to the gospel. He avoids unnecessary publicity and focuses on prayer, teaching, and missionary work.

Contributions and Legacy
Through MFM, Pastor Olukoya has established thousands of branches worldwide, spreading the message of deliverance and holiness to millions. The ministry runs educational institutions, including the Mountain Top University, founded in 2015, which aims to provide quality education with strong moral and spiritual values.

He has also contributed to Christian music development through the MFM Choir, which is one of the largest gospel choirs in Africa and has entered the Guinness World Records for its massive size and performance.

Pastor Daniel Kolawole Olukoya remains one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian leaders. His life blends science, faith, and divine calling, serving as an example of excellence, a cheerful giver, dedication, and spiritual authority. His work continues to impact lives across nations, calling people to a life of prayer, holiness, and victory through Jesus Christ.
