The attention of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been drawn to a social media publication circulating on Facebook by ‘Objectv Media’, wherein an individual identified as Tosin alleged that beginning from an unspecified Monday, LASTMA Officers purportedly arrested commercial buses along Coastal Road and compelled drivers to pay the sum of ₦100,000 before their vehicles were released.

The Authority wishes to state unequivocally that it views such allegations with utmost seriousness, as LASTMA remains a disciplined, professional and ethically guided government institution that does not, under any circumstances, condone misconduct, abuse of office or extortion by any of its personnel.

Consequently, the Management has initiated a thorough, impartial and comprehensive investigation into the allegation. This inquiry has already commenced in earnest and the Authority assures the public that any Officer found culpable upon the conclusion of due investigation processes will face the full wrath of the law in strict accordance with established rules, regulations and disciplinary procedures governing the Authority.

In furtherance of this investigation, the Authority hereby extends an open invitation to the individual identified as Tosin to appear at the Office of the General Manager, LASTMA Headquarters, Oshodi and present concrete and verifiable evidence to substantiate his claims, as the burden of proof lies squarely upon he who makes the allegation.

LASTMA reiterates its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability and the highest standards of public service.

The Authority remains dedicated to fostering public trust and ensuring that the conduct of its Officers consistently reflects the core values of integrity, discipline and professionalism.

The public is hereby encouraged to continue to report any perceived misconduct through the appropriate and verified channels, as LASTMA remains resolute in its pursuit of a traffic management system anchored on fairness, orderliness and respect for the rights of all road users.

Adebayo Taofiq
Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA
