The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, acipm, mnips, on Thursday, 9 July 2026, continued his familiarisation tour of the Command with a strategic visit to the Ughelli Area Command, where he paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, engaged critical stakeholders, and addressed officers and men of the Area Command.
During the courtesy visit, the CP commended his Royal Majesty and the people of Ughelli Kingdom for their continued support to the Nigeria Police Force and reiterated the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Rilwan Olatunji Disu, psc (+), NPM, on strengthening grassroots policing through strategic collaboration with traditional institutions. He emphasised that sustained intelligence sharing remains indispensable to combating cultism, illicit drug trafficking, kidnapping, and other violent crimes, while assuring the monarch that the Command will continue to discharge its constitutional mandate with professionalism, strict adherence to the rule of law, and respect for fundamental human rights.
In his response, HRM, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, reaffirmed the palace’s commitment to partnering with the Police in safeguarding the kingdom, stressing that no criminal would be shielded on account of being an indigene, as those protected today could become tomorrow’s threat to the community. He pledged the palace’s continued cooperation in supporting law enforcement through intelligence sharing and other collaborative security initiatives while noting that the entire Ughelli kingdom believes in the police and will continue to be friends and support the police at all times.
The familiarisation visit culminated in separate interactive engagements with critical stakeholders and officers and men of the Ughelli Area Command. Addressing stakeholders, the CP called for stronger synergy with the Police through timely and credible information capable of preventing crime before it occurs. Speaking to officers, he emphasised discipline, professionalism, civility in dealing with members of the public, and strict observance of the Force’s Standard Operating Procedures. He further reminded officers that compliance with the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy is mandatory, warning that the unauthorised use of social media or any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute will not be tolerated. He urged all personnel to remain committed to the IGP’s vision of a professional, intelligence-driven, and people-oriented policing.
