Societal Concerns Organization is proud to announce a monumental two-in-one event designed to honor individuals who have selflessly contributed to community development and address a critical societal issue: femicide.

The event combines the Community Service Distinguished Awards, which celebrates personalities who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community building, and a symposium themed Breaking the Silence: Understanding and Preventing Femicide in Our Community.”

Recognizing Selfless Contributions
The Community Service Distinguished Awards will spotlight leaders, advocates, and changemakers who have worked tirelessly to uplift and strengthen communities. These individuals have dedicated their time and resources to fostering progress and addressing key societal challenges.

Breaking the Silence on Femicide
The symposium, themed Breaking the Silence: Understanding and Preventing Femicide in Our Community,” seeks to raise awareness and foster actionable dialogue on combating femicide—the intentional killing of women and girls. With violence against women often spiking during the year-end season, this event is both timely and necessary.

The event will feature a lineup of eminent personalities, including:
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu,First Lady of Lagos State and Matron of Societal Concerns Organization (Special Guest of Honor).
Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
Mrs. Kafilat Araoye, Managing Director/CEO, LUTOS Bank.
CP Ishola, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.
Dr. Arinola Oluwa, CEO, ARN Girls Reading Room.
Queen Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, Founder, Queen Halimat Foundation.

Why This Matters ?
Femicide—a global issue rooted in economic hardship, societal pressure, and patriarchal norms—remains a significant threat to women. By addressing this issue, Societal Concerns Organization aims to empower communities, advocate for systemic change, and foster a culture of respect and equality.

Objectives of the Symposium is to
Uncovering sociocultural and economic factors contributing to femicide.
Proposing measures to enhance women’s safety and security.
Strengthening legislative frameworks and law enforcement roles in protecting women.
Promoting education, advocacy, and economic empowerment for women.

We call on individuals, organizations, and policymakers to unite in this fight against femicide while celebrating those who have worked to build stronger, safer communities.
