A white Mack tanker conveying sugar soda content fell sideways on Iganmu Bridge, this morning, disrupting early morning traffic and raising alarm among commuters. The lone crash, reported at exactly 07:33hrs, was attributed to loss of control on the rough section of the bridge.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, under the leadership of Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, confirms that the crash, though minor, involved two adult males, with no injuries nor fatalities . Immediate action was taken to prevent further risk to lives and property.
As the distress call was received by FRSC at 07:35hrs, the rescue team from the nearest command swung into action five minutes later. The FRSC team played a vital role in controlling the situation and avoiding a secondary incident or explosion.
FRSC personnel, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Fire Service, and LASTMA managed traffic around the affected route while transloading of the tanker’s sugar soda content has also commenced. The tanker was eventually towed off the road, and fire services personnel flushed the spilled content from the roadway to eliminate any hazard to road users.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat urges all articulated vehicles drivers and other road users to exercise maximum caution, particularly when approaching bridges, bad road patches, or bends. Regular vehicle maintenance, adherence to speed limits, and defensive driving are also critical.
