On behalf of the Chairman of Island Club, Omo’ba Dr. Rotimi Olasode Martins, KCOP, the Management Committee, and the entire membership of our distinguished Club, we announce with deep respect and profound reflection the transition of our revered Vice Patron, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba II, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
His Royal Majesty departed this world earlier today at the remarkable age of 91, having lived an extraordinary life of impact, leadership, courage, and cultural preservation. Oba Adetona was not only a beacon of traditional authority, but also a symbol of moral strength, developmental vision, and unshakable commitment to the dignity of the Yoruba people and Nigeria at large.
As Awujale, he redefined kingship with integrity, intellect, and a progressive mind. For decades, he remained a shining light in the national discourse on true federalism, justice, and good governance. His reign witnessed unprecedented development in Ijebuland and across Ogun State.
Island Club mourns the loss of this towering cultural icon and statesman whose values and presence enriched our heritage and national identity. We commiserate deeply with his family, the Ijebu people, the governor, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, CON and the good people of Ogun State, and indeed the entire nation.
May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, accept his return, and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen.
e- Signed,
Aare Ayodele Bankole, KCOP
Hon General Secretary
