The Department of Political Science, under the Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, is proud to announce its Maiden International Conference set to take place on 24th–25th July 2025 at the University Auditorium.

This historic event, themed “Africa at Crossroads: Confronting Governance, Security and Development Challenges in the 21st Century,” brings together a stellar lineup of thought leaders, public intellectuals, and policy actors to address Africa’s complex and evolving landscape.

The conference will be graced by Chief Barr Olisa Metuh (Akajiugo I), Principal Partner at James Frost and Co., as the Keynote Speaker. Delivering the lead papers are Dr. Ogban Ogban-Iyam, Director of the Centre for Popularisation and Popular Control and Use of Knowledge, Skills and Physical Resources, and Prof. Okechukwu Ibeanu, former National Commissioner of INEC Nigeria.

The Opening Ceremony begins at 10:00 AM on July 24, with Justice Prof. Peter Umeadi, former Chief Judge of Anambra State, serving as Chairman of the occasion. The event is hosted by Prof. Jude C. Okafor, Head of Department, Political Science; co-hosted by Prof. Michael Ezenwa, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences; and chiefly hosted by Prof. Carol C. Arinze-Umobι, Acting Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University. The Chief Guest of Honour is Barr Olugbenga Kukoyi, Chairman, Governing Council of the university.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) is chaired by Dr. Ignatius Ifesinachi Ngini.

With security, governance, and development standing at the heart of Africa’s trajectory in the 21st century, this conference promises robust dialogue and visionary insights for a continent at the cusp of transformation.
