The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed a tragic night crash that claimed six (6) lives and left three (3) others injured along the Ikorodu–Shagamu Road.
The fatal crash, which occurred at about 2348hrs on Friday, 26th September 2025, happened in front of the Fire Service Station, Odogiyan, and involved a yellow TVS tricycle and a white FAW commercial truck.
According to the State Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, preliminary investigations revealed that overspeeding was the major cause of the crash. She noted that although the FRSC rescue team responded swiftly, all nine passengers were affected — with six confirmed dead and three evacuated with injuries to Ikorodu General Hospital. The deceased were also deposited at the hospital mortuary, while the vehicles were towed to Sagamu Road Police Station for further investigation.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of the injured. He cautioned motorists against overspeeding, emphasizing that most of the crashes witnessed in Lagos and across Nigeria are avoidable if drivers obey speed limits.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, mni, FCA, FCTA, CPFA, also lent his voice, reminding both drivers and passengers that road safety is everyone’s duty. He called on passengers to speak up when in unsafe vehicles and advised commercial drivers — especially tricycle and truck operators — to reduce speed and prioritize safety over haste.
“Every life lost on our roads is one too many. Overspeeding does not save time; it only ends lives. Let us choose safety every time we get behind the wheel,” the Corps Marshal urged.
The FRSC Lagos Sector Command restates its commitment to consistent enforcement, public education, and collaboration with stakeholders to make Lagos roads safer for all.
