The Optical Medical Outreach Programme organised by Distinguished Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, has recorded remarkable success across the nine local government areas so far targeted within the district, with the second phase of the programme recently concluded in the Oyo Zone.

The programme witnessed massive turnout, enthusiastic participation, and overwhelming appreciation from beneficiaries, underscoring the relevance and impact of the intervention.

The outreach featured the engagement of highly skilled professional eye-care specialists who conducted comprehensive eye screenings, delivered health education lectures, provided relevant medications, and distributed high-quality corrective eyeglasses to beneficiaries with varying degrees of visual impairment.

Originally designed for 350 beneficiaries, Senator Akintunde graciously has taken up the financial responsibility to care for the medical expenses of over 3,500 other direct beneficiaries in excess of the planned on the collaborative optical medical outreach initiative.

Senator Akintunde facilitated the project in collaboration with the Federal Co-operative College, Ibadan, as part of his sustained commitment to promoting quality healthcare delivery and improving the general well-being of his constituents.

Across the nine local government areas that have so far benefitted from the program, beneficiaries and community members expressed profound gratitude to the Senator for this laudable initiative, describing it as timely, impactful, and life-enhancing. Many appealed for the continuity of such interventions to enhance access to quality healthcare services.

While monitoring the exercise at the Oyo Zone during the second phase of the programme, following the successful completion of the Ibadan Outer City Zone, in the company of Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, Executive Director, South West Development Commission, Hon. Femi Akintunde, CRC Ibadan Outer City Zone, Hon Olabode, CRC Oyo Zone, and other party leaders, Senator Akintunde expressed satisfaction with the smooth and orderly conduct of the outreach. He commended the professionalism, discipline, and cooperation displayed by all stakeholders.

> “So far, I am highly impressed with the level of success recorded, and I look forward to facilitating more impactful programmes that will benefit a larger segment of our people in the nearest future.

> “I sincerely appreciate our partners, the Federal Co-operative College, Ibadan, as well as other stakeholders, the team of professional eye-care specialists and medical personnel, party leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), party members, my coordinators, and our constituents for their support and the orderly coordination of this outreach programme.

> “The impressive outcome recorded across the nine local government areas clearly demonstrates our collective commitment and capacity as responsible and organised leaders and stakeholders,” he stated.

The Senator further reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to excellent representation and improved living conditions for his constituents.

> “I assure our people of my continued commitment to people-centred governance, quality healthcare service delivery, and sustainable environmental development. This intervention has given me deeper insight into the magnitude of health challenges facing our communities, and my resolve to prioritise healthcare delivery will be further strengthened, because, as the saying goes, health is wealth,” he concluded.

He added that he would continue to sustain human capacity development initiatives, expand opportunities, and implement impactful interventions in collaboration with relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), within available resources.
