The Optical Medical Outreach Programme organised by Distinguished Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, has recorded remarkable success across the nine local government areas so far targeted within the district, with the second phase of the programme recently concluded in the Oyo Zone.
The programme witnessed massive turnout, enthusiastic participation, and overwhelming appreciation from beneficiaries, underscoring the relevance and impact of the intervention.
The outreach featured the engagement of highly skilled professional eye-care specialists who conducted comprehensive eye screenings, delivered health education lectures, provided relevant medications, and distributed high-quality corrective eyeglasses to beneficiaries with varying degrees of visual impairment.
Originally designed for 350 beneficiaries, Senator Akintunde graciously has taken up the financial responsibility to care for the medical expenses of over 3,500 other direct beneficiaries in excess of the planned on the collaborative optical medical outreach initiative.
Senator Akintunde facilitated the project in collaboration with the Federal Co-operative College, Ibadan, as part of his sustained commitment to promoting quality healthcare delivery and improving the general well-being of his constituents.
Across the nine local government areas that have so far benefitted from the program, beneficiaries and community members expressed profound gratitude to the Senator for this laudable initiative, describing it as timely, impactful, and life-enhancing. Many appealed for the continuity of such interventions to enhance access to quality healthcare services.
