Hon. Akin Alabi, the Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Member representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has been announced as the New Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland, officially marking his entry into the Ibadan chieftaincy line.
This was made known on Monday, May 19th, 2025, in a letter issued by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, at the Olubadan Palace. His coronation is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, following the customs and traditions of Ibadanland.
The Ibadan chieftaincy system is one of the most respected traditional structures in Yorubaland, known for its well-defined, stepwise progression through 23 hierarchical stages. The title of Jagun Olubadan is the starting point in this lineage and carries immense historical and cultural weight.
Reacting to the announcement, Hon. Alabi expressed profound gratitude:
“This is not just a personal milestone, it is a proud moment for all Ibadan indigenes. I recognize the gravity of this step and I am committed to upholding the values and heritage it represents.”
This honor reflects not only Hon. Alabi’s ongoing service at the federal level but also his dedication to the cultural heritage and traditional leadership structure of his homeland.
