The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, today, Wednesday, 3 June 2026, convened a high-level meeting with senior officers of the command to address concerns relating to the security, discipline and professional conduct.
The meeting was attended by members of the command management team, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Departments. The CP stressed the need for all supervising officers to ensure strict compliance with all existing rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police Force that guides the conduct of Police officers, noting that professional misconduct by any officer of the command will not be tolerated and supervising officers will be vicariously held liable.
The CP expressed concerns over lack of community engagement by DPO and therefore ordered that all DPOS must engage critical stakeholders within their area of responsibility and sensitize them on the need to be security conscious of their environment. The CP also noted that murder cases in the state are on the rise and DPOs must engage members of the community they police on the need to avoid escalating issues that can lead to violence and sometimes death.
During the meeting, the CP gave all Area commanders, and DPOS marching orders to locate schools, churches, mosques, and correctional centres in the area and ensure maximum security is provided, while also directing them to ensure regular visits.
Finally the CP directed that all officers of the command must always appear smart, neat and to always have their name tag. Any officer without name tag on their uniform or approved tactical vest will be sanctioned and their supervising officer will be held vicariously liable.
