In a bold step towards reducing the scourge of road traffic crashes caused by alcohol-impaired driving, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command, in collaboration with Pernod Ricard Nigeria, hosted a strategic Don’t Drink and Drive Town Hall Meeting under the theme “Safe Roads.”
The event, held in Lagos, brought together high-level stakeholders from government ministries, security and safety agencies, transportation unions, and the private sector, united by one message: drink-driving must stop.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Ehindero stressed that road crashes due to alcohol-impaired driving remain a major cause of death and economic loss in Nigeria. “This collaboration underscores our commitment to saving lives through advocacy and behavioral change,” he said.
Delivering the keynote address, Corps Commander GK Hamzat emphasized the importance of making responsible choices behind the wheel, urging road users to reflect on the irreversible damage caused by drink-driving. He referenced the theme for 2024 Ember Months theme: “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving, Crashes Kill More Passengers than Drivers.”
Stakeholders lent their voices in solidarity, pledging to drive positive behavioral change across transport unions and communities. The FRSC Sector Public Education Officer, RC Elizabeth O. Jayeola, also demonstrated the features of the FRSC Mobile App, encouraging the public to use its emergency response and reporting functions.
The session concluded with a heartfelt commitment from stakeholders—particularly transport union leaders—to intensify awareness campaigns at motor parks, advocate for safe driving practices, and enforce zero tolerance for drink-driving among commercial drivers.
This collaborative town hall marks another bold step in strengthening public engagement, protecting lives, and building a culture of responsibility on Nigerian roads
