In a bid to improve access to clean water and enhance public health, Hon. Akin Alabi, the member representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced plans to construct 50 solar-powered boreholes across Egbeda and Ona-Ara Local Governments in 2025.
The lawmaker made this known during an inspection of a newly completed solar-powered borehole at Wofun, Ibadan, where he reiterated his commitment to providing essential infrastructure for his constituents.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Alabi emphasized the critical role of clean water in community development, stating that the initiative is part of his broader agenda to improve living conditions and reduce waterborne diseases in the area.
“Water is life, and ensuring that our people have easy access to clean water is a top priority. We plan to construct 50 borehole projects across Ona-Ara and Egbeda in 2025 to address the pressing water needs of our communities. Egbeda/Ona-Ara is in safe hands,” he said.
The project will utilize solar-powered technology to provide a sustainable and reliable water supply to underserved communities, reducing dependence on traditional sources and addressing recurring water scarcity issues.
Residents of Egbeda and Ona-Ara have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that will significantly improve their daily lives. Some community leaders and residents expressed appreciation for what they called a proactive and impactful approach to governance.
A resident of Wofun, Mr. Taiwo Ajayi, popularly known as “Ogo ati Iyin”, commended the initiative, stating, “We have suffered from water scarcity for years, and this borehole is a relief. Knowing that more communities will benefit from this project gives us hope.”
This latest intervention adds to Hon. Alabi’s track record of implementing developmental projects across the constituency, including road infrastructure, education support, and economic empowerment programs.
With work expected to commence soon, stakeholders and community members remain hopeful that the borehole projects will be executed efficiently and serve as a long-term solution to water challenges in Egbeda and Ona-Ara.
