The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) hereby formally apprises the motoring public and commuting populace of the ongoing partial closure of the Ifako Expansion Joint Bridge, located along the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

This closure has become imperative due to the commencement of critical reconstruction and structural reinforcement works aimed at safeguarding the long-term stability, durability, and operational functionality of the bridge.

In accordance with the Lagos State Government’s anticipatory and strategic traffic mitigation framework, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Honourable Sola Giwa, disclosed that personnel of LASTMA have been comprehensively mobilised and strategically positioned at key junctures and congestion-prone areas across the impacted corridor.

Hon. Giwa stated that the deployment is meticulously designed to guarantee uninterrupted vehicular circulation, streamline traffic dynamics, and forestall avoidable gridlocks throughout the period of this infrastructural intervention.

“Despite the partial closure of the bridge, vehicular progression beyond the Ifako axis remains remarkably fluid, with a sustained and orderly flow extending toward the Toll Gate and contiguous arterial routes. This operational efficiency is attributable to the rapid mobilisation, tactical dexterity, and exemplary professionalism of LASTMA operatives presently coordinating traffic within the corridor.”

While extending profound appreciation to road users for their patience, restraint, and civic cooperation, Hon. Giwa urged all motorists to exhibit decorum, comply strictly with traffic signage and official instructions, and accord due respect to traffic management officials diligently performing their statutory duties.

He further admonished both commercial and private vehicle operators to refrain from conduct or manoeuvres capable of obstructing the ongoing reconstruction exercise or compounding the prevailing traffic situation.

Emphasising the significance of the project, Hon. Giwa stated that the rehabilitation of the Ifako Expansion Joint Bridge represents a strategic infrastructural investment designed to enhance commuter safety, fortify structural integrity, and promote sustainable mobility along this vital transport corridor.

“The rehabilitation works are to span a cumulative period of 101 days. Specifically, construction on the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Alapere section will take 50 days (Saturday, 28th June to Saturday, 16th August 2025) while works on the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Oworonshoki section will last an additional 51 days (Saturday, 16th August to Sunday, 5th October 2025),” he clarified.

Hon. Giwa reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Lagos State Government to delivering essential public infrastructure while minimising disruption to daily commuting patterns.

He therefore enjoined all road users, including commercial transport operators, to leverage alternative routes where feasible, remain attentive to verified traffic advisories, and collaborate proactively with LASTMA officials and relevant government agencies for real-time traffic guidance and situational updates.

“For prompt and effective resolution of any traffic-related issues within the State, members of the public are respectfully encouraged to reach out to LASTMA through its dedicated toll-free hotline: 0800 005 27862,” he concluded.
