Police operatives from the Ikotun Division have apprehended two members of a four-man armed robbery gang following a violent attack at a barbershop in the Egbe area. The incident, which occurred on Liasu Road on December 6, 2025, left one victim with a gunshot wound.
According to police reports, the assailants, riding on two motorcycles, invaded the shop in an attempt to rob customers of their phones. The situation escalated when a customer, Adeniyi Timileyin, resisted the robbers’ attempt to seize his iPhone 14 Promax. In response, one of the gang members shot Timileyin in the leg. The victim is currently receiving treatment at Igando General Hospital.
The brazen attack sparked immediate outrage from residents, who pursued the fleeing suspects. The community effort led to the capture of two of the robbers. An angry mob had begun to mete out mob justice before police officers intervened, rescuing the suspects and taking them into custody.
A Bajaj motorcycle with registration number LSR 945, believed to be used during the operation, was recovered by the police. However, two other gang members managed to escape, reportedly fleeing with a locally made firearm.
During preliminary interrogation, one of the arrested suspects, identified as Sunday Olarewaju, allegedly confessed to the gang’s activities. He stated that the group had been terrorizing the Ikotun and Igando axes, robbing residents of phones and other valuables, and using lethal force when confronted.
The case has been transferred to the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja for further investigation. Attempts to reach the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ikotun, CSP Waheed Adebisi, were unsuccessful as he was said to be on patrol duty. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Police authorities have cited the incident as a demonstration of effective community-police collaboration, crediting the operational strategy of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, for fostering quicker response times and stronger ties with residents in curbing crime.
A manhunt is currently underway for the two remaining suspects who are still at large.
