The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Kosofe Local Government hereby expresses its strong objection and unequivocal condemnation of the recent endorsement statement credited to the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Sego, concerning political representation within the Kosofe Constituency 2.
At the outset, the Coalition considers it both inappropriate and unacceptable for any individual or group particularly one lacking direct residency or indigenous ties to the Kosofe community to attempt to exert undue influence on the democratic choices of our people.
Representation within Kosofe Constituency 2 must remain the exclusive prerogative of its residents and stakeholders, guided by informed consent, credible leadership evaluation, and constitutional democratic processes.
The reported circumstances surrounding this endorsement raise grave concerns about external interference, coercive political signaling, and the attempted imposition of preferences through influence that does not reflect the will of the people.
Such actions undermine democratic norms, weaken community autonomy, and threaten the peace and order that the constituency has consistently maintained.
Kosofe Constituency 2 is not a political territory to be dictated by external actors or leveraged for sectional interests.
It is a community defined by civic consciousness, indigenous heritage, and a long-standing commitment to participatory governance.
Any attempt to override this reality constitutes a direct affront to the collective dignity and democratic rights of its people.
POSITION OF THE COALITION
– The purported endorsement by the NURTW leadership, under the circumstances described, is rejected in its entirety as lacking legitimacy within the context of Kosofe Constituency 2.
– The people of Kosofe Constituency 2 will not accept any form of political imposition, intimidation, or externally driven influence in determining their representation.
– That democratic representation must emerge solely from the free will of the electorate, expressed through lawful and transparent processes.
– All political actors and affiliated groups are strongly advised to operate within the bounds of civility, legality, and respect for community autonomy.
– Relevant security and regulatory authorities should remain alert to prevent any actions capable of disrupting public peace or undermining democratic engagement within the constituency.
CALL FOR RESPONSIBILITY AND DEMOCRATIC CONDUCT
The Coalition calls on all stakeholders to exercise restraint and to engage constructively within the framework of democratic values.
Political legitimacy cannot be manufactured through endorsements imposed from outside the constituency, but must be earned through trust, performance, and genuine grassroots acceptance.
CONCLUSION
The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Kosofe Local Government remains unwavering in its commitment to defending the democratic rights of residents and safeguarding the integrity of the political process within Kosofe Constituency 2.
We reiterate that the future of Kosofe Constituency 2 will be determined solely by its people, through lawful, peaceful, and participatory means.
Signed
