In a determined effort to rid the metropolis of environmental infractions and criminal elements, and to enhance public safety, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit carried out a routine enforcement and clean-up operation in the early hours of Friday, 20th June 2025.

The operation, which commenced at approximately 12:35 a.m., was led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, and targeted key areas including the railway corridor, Oke Koto, Isale Oja, AP Roundabout, and other adjoining streets in the Agege axis.

These areas had been flagged following numerous complaints and distress calls indicating the persistent presence of street urchins, miscreants, hooligans, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals, particularly during late-night hours.

During the raid, a total of eighty-four (84) suspects comprising eighty-two (82) males and two (2) females were apprehended. The Agency successfully restored law and order to all locations visited.

Speaking on the outcome of the operation, the Chairman issued a stern warning to criminal elements, emphasizing that the Agency would not relent in its commitment to maintaining environmental decorum and securing lives and property across the State.

“Recalcitrant violators of the law should desist immediately or face the full weight of the law,” he warned.

According to CSP Akerele, the exercise forms part of the Agency’s broader strategy to conduct routine enforcement operations at least three times weekly, with the aim of gradually eliminating criminal activity and safeguarding law-abiding residents and businesses in the area.

All suspects arrested during the operation have been charged to court in accordance with the law.

The Lagos State Taskforce remains steadfast in its mission to ensure a safer, cleaner, and more secure environment for all Lagosians.
