


The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, on Friday honoured veteran journalist and former union leader, Mr. Sadiq Martins, during his 8th-Day Fidau Prayer in recognition of his immense contributions to journalism and the union.
Speaking at the prayer session, the Chairman of the NUJ Lagos State Council, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, described the late Martins as a committed unionist who was a familiar face at the Council’s State Congress meetings, where he was always seen occupying the front row.
Ajayi noted that Martins possessed an exceptional knowledge of the NUJ Constitution and earned the respect and admiration of journalists not only in Lagos State but across Nigeria.
He added that the late journalist worked closely with successive Chairmen of the Lagos State Council and was widely regarded as a goal-getter whose unwavering dedication to the union inspired many.
The Chairman urged journalists to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and selfless service, which Martins exemplified throughout his lifetime.
Ajayi also prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort his family during this difficult time.
The prayer session was attended by other members of the NUJ Lagos State Council, including the Council’s Secretary, Tunde Olalere; Assistant Secretary, Olayide Awosanya; Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Abraham Akpabio; Vice Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Juliet Fanayajo; Correspondents’ Chapel Auditor, Iyabo Aina and Jaji Habibat.
Others are elders Gbenga Fatile, Ayo Ojedokun, and Ben Ibe, alongside other members of the union who gathered to pay their final respects to the late journalist.
Special prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of Martins’ soul and for God to grant strength, comfort, and fortitude to his family, friends, and colleagues as they mourn his passing.
