Ooni 10th Coronation Anniversary: Remi Tinubu Becomes Yeye Asiwaju Of Oodua

In a vibrant display of Yoruba culture and tradition, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was yesterday the 7th of December, 2025 bestowed with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju of Oodua (Yeye Asiwaju gbogbo omo Oodua) at a grand ceremony held in Ile-Ife, the ancient cradle of the Yoruba race.

The historic event, which saw an unprecedented gathering of governors’ wives from across the nation, underscored the First Lady’s commitment to national unity and cultural heritage.

​The revered Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, personally conferred the title upon Senator Tinubu, recognizing her as a unifying figure and a champion of the Yoruba people. The Ooni, a widely loved and respected monarch, presided over the colorful ceremony, which drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, and citizens from all walks of life.

​The Ife Palace grounds buzzed with excitement as the First Lady, adorned in exquisite traditional attire, arrived accompanied by an impressive delegation of governors’ wives. Their presence signified a strong show of solidarity and a shared appreciation for the rich cultural tapestry of Nigeria.

​During the ceremony, Oba Ogunwusi lauded Senator Tinubu’s dedication to public service and her unwavering support for initiatives that promote peace, progress, and the upliftment of women and children.

Kabiesi highlighted her role as a mother of the nation and expressed confidence that her new title would further empower her to foster unity and development among the Yoruba diaspora and beyond.
​In her acceptance speech, an emotional

Senator Tinubu expressed profound gratitude for the honor, pledging to uphold the values and responsibilities associated with the Yeye Asiwaju title. She emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and called for continued collaboration among all Nigerians to build a stronger, more prosperous nation. She also thanked the Ooni for his exceptional leadership and warm reception.

​The event featured captivating traditional performances, including drumming, dancing, and praise poetry, celebrating the rich history and traditions of the Yoruba people.

The atmosphere was one of joyous celebration, reinforcing the significance of the occasion for both the First Lady and the Yoruba community.

​The conferment of the Yeye Asiwaju title on Senator Oluremi Tinubu marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s cultural and political landscape, further cementing her role as a prominent figure dedicated to national cohesion and the promotion of Nigeria’s diverse heritage.
