Over 75,000 Unclaimed Driver’s Licences In Lagos: FRSC Urges Immediate Collection As JTB Announces New Licensing Fees

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Sector Command, hereby alerts the general public that 75,259 processed driver’s licenses remain unclaimed across the state.

These unclaimed licenses are currently housed at the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) or Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) offices. However, applicants can visit any of the 25 Driver’s License Centers (DLCs) across Lagos State to confirm their license pickup code. Many applicants have completed their biometric capture but have failed to return for their permanent license

The FRSC reiterates that possession of a valid driver’s license is not only a legal requirement in Nigeria but also a critical form of identification locally and internationally. It is recognized by law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, embassies, and other regulatory bodies. It confirms the bearer’s driving competence and supports safety and identity verification protocols.

Lagos currently operates 25 DLCs, including those in Ikeja, Ojodu, Yaba, Agege, Oshodi, Lagos Island, Lekki, Ajah, Ikorodu, Badagry, Amuwo-Odofin, Ajeromi, Apapa, Mushin, and Surulere, among others.

In a related development, the Joint Tax Board (JTB) has announced an upward review in the prices of vehicle number plates and driver’s licenses. The price adjustment will take effect from Sunday, 8th June 2025.

The JTB, being the apex body for revenue authorities in Nigeria, urges the general public and all licensing authorities to comply with the new pricing structure as follows:

Driver’s License Fees:
• Motor vehicle driver’s license (3 years): N15,000
• Motor vehicle driver’s license (5 years): N21,000
• Tricycle/Motorcycle driver’s license (3 years): N7,000
• Tricycle/Motorcycle driver’s license (5 years): N11,000

Number Plate Fees:
• Standard private vehicle number plate: N30,000
• Standard commercial number plate: N30,000
• Articulated vehicle number plate: N90,000
• Dealer vehicle number plate: N100,000

The FRSC Lagos Sector Command advises the public to take advantage of the current prices before the new rates take effect and to prioritize the collection of already-processed licenses to avoid unnecessary expenses and delays.
