The State Commandant Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde has expressed the commitment of the Corps in ensuring security in schools.

Commandant Maku stated this in his office at the State Command Headquarters, Awka when he received on a courtesy visit the Director/ Principal of the Federal Science and Technical College Awka, Dr. Kelvin Ude .

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Kelvin said they were in the Command to familiarize themselves and solicit for collaboration they have enjoyed with the Corps in the past years.

“We are here today Sir to familiarize ourselves with critical stakeholders especially the NSCDC in attending to certain aspects of our school security,he said.

Responding, Commandant Maku appreciated the Director FSTC Awka and his team for the visit and assured them of the Command’s commitment and readiness to partner with them to improve security in the school.

He condemned attacks on schools which prompted the Federal government through the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to develop a strategy aimed at safeguarding schools from threats and violence, under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi .

This initiative according to him formed part of the NSCDC’s efforts to protect schools and host communities from violence, in line with the National Plan on Safe Schools with the creation and establishment of Safe School Project.

He pointed out that as the lead agency in the programme, the NSCDC in May 2021, conducted a vulnerability survey of all schools in the country and published the statistics obtained of all vulnerable schools for necessary action.

Comdt. Maku maintained that in continuation with NSCDC resolve to ensure security in schools, the Corps with assistance from the Federal Ministry of Finance, flagged off the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre in 2023 to commence the national implementation of the programme.

The NSCDC Anambra State helmsman pledged to deploy both human and operational resources to FSTC Awka to beef up security around the school environment.

“We are a grassroot security organization that feel the security needs of the masses, we hear their cry and we are ever ready to assist them.

“The synergy you are looking for, I want to assure you that you will have it. We welcome your request and will do our best to oblige you” he concluded.
