During the Senate deliberation on the Electricity Amendment Act, originally sponsored by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Distinguished Senator Dr Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central) made a bold and patriotic intervention.
He emphasized that no country in the world runs electricity without subsidy and Nigeria should be no different. He called out the mismanagement of subsidies by some DISCOs and GENCOs, stressing that the real issue is not subsidy itself, but how it’s handled.
“Subsidy in the power sector is not a crime — it is a tool for economic stability. What we need is accountability, not removal,” he stated.
Senator Akintunde remains committed to advocating for policies that protect the masses and support Nigeria’s struggling economy.
