In the early hours of today, tragedy struck along the Agbara–Badagry Expressway as a fatal multiple crash claimed the lives of eight (8) individuals and left thirteen (13) others injured, in what can only be described as a gory and heartbreaking incident.
The crash, which occurred at 05:50HRS around the MTN axis, involved two commercial vehicles – a DAF truck (registration number unknown) and a Mazda bus with registration number KJA 811 YF. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and devastation as bodies were trapped, bloodied, and lifeless on the highway, painting a tragic picture of lives cut short.
The accident left 12 males and 1 female injured, while three victims remain unconscious and are currently under close medical supervision.
All injured persons were rushed to the General Hospital, Badagry, for urgent treatment, and the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC personnel attributed the crash to speed limit violations (SLV) and wrongful overtaking (WOV)—a deadly combination that turned the journey into a nightmare.
FRSC operatives arrived just 11 minutes after the report was received and administered first aid, evacuate victims, clear the obstruction, and hand over the wrecked vehicles to the Morogbo Divisional Police Station for further investigation.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat deeply sympathizes with the families of the deceased and reiterates the Corps’ call for caution, discipline, and strict adherence to traffic rules, especially on high-speed corridors like the Agbara–Badagry Expressway.
This tragic incident underscores once again the grave consequences of reckless driving and the need for all road users to prioritize life over speed.
