The identity of the ValueJet Airlines pilot who piloted the plane King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal was denied entry has been revealed.

KWAM1 was said to have spilt alcohol on aviation personnel when they attempted to verify the contents of a flask he wanted to bring on board the flight.

The incident which involved the KWAM 1 and two pilots of ValueJet Airlines led to the suspension of the licences of the pilots, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co- pilot, First officer Ivan Oloba.

Captain Oluranti, fondly known as “Rantilicious” by her friends and colleagues, is a remarkable Nigerian aviator making waves in the skies. She is the daughter of Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central in the National Assembly from 2003 to 2007.

With over a decade of flying experience, Oluranti began her career with Arik Air, where she spent several years honing her skills. She later joined ValueJet, where she continues to excel as one of the airline’s top female pilots.

Her promotion to full captain came in September 2021 after years of dedication as a first officer. The achievement was celebrated in a formal decoration ceremony led by Arik Air’s then-chief executive, Captain Roy Ilegbodu, alongside Captain Adetokunbo Adekunbi and Captain Chris Najomo — who now serves as the NCAA Director General.

Captain Oluranti is married to fellow pilot Isaac Ogoyi Jr., who also started his career with Arik Air. He has since moved on to RwandAir and currently flies for Uganda Airlines. Together, they form an inspiring aviation power couple.

In one memorable moment that blended celebrity and aviation, Captain Oluranti once flew with none other than the Fuji music legend, K1 De Ultimate — a flight that perfectly captured her poise and professionalism in the cockpit.

Following the incident, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, directed the NCAA to immediately blacklist Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, from air travel within and outside Nigeria.

The Minister warned that any airline that does not comply with the no-fly ban on Kwam 1, risks its operating licence being withdrawn.

According to Mr Keyamo, in a statement released on Thursday, 7th of August , 2025, the decision followed detailed reports and video evidence submitted by aviation agencies regarding the altercation involving Kwam 1 and the crew of a ValueJet aircraft on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

He described the incident as “a case of temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides” that could have resulted in serious fatalities.

“Contrary to what the agents of Kwam 1 has said, he CONSTANTLY moved his position on the tarmac to ACTUALLY BLOCK the aircraft from taxiing to take position on the runway for take-off. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE behaviour,” the minister said.

“The issue of whether he was carrying water or alcohol is not even in issue at this point. It is the physical blockage of the aircraft from taxiing that is the reprehensible conduct here, which is akin to a hostage situation. The actual video footage showing this recalcitrant behaviour is hereby attached.”
