Sequel to the routine maintenance works on pedestrian and vehicular Bridges in the State, the Lagos State Government has issued a travel directory for the duration of the maintenance works on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge.

Speaking during the inspection tour of the progress of work on the Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area of the State, the Special Adviser, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola said as part of efforts to continue to safeguard the lives and property of people living in Lagos, the Bridge maintenance works is of paramount impotence.

He urged stakeholders to support the contractors on site to ensure timely delivery of the maintenance works, adding that the State Government is not unmindful of the inconvenience the maintenance works would have on commuters.

Appealing for patience and cooperation from the motoring public, the Special Adviser, who visited the project in the company of the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso added that traffic management plans are been re-evaluated, considering the volume of traffic flow on the Odo-Iya Alaro bridge.

Daramola harped on the need for motorists and Lagos residents to be patient during the 90-day closure necessitated by the failure of the expansion joints, the deplorable state of the asphalt pavement and expansion joints on the Odo Iya Alaro. He implored Lagosians to endure the attendant traffic, while the project lasts, and also, take ownership of infrastructure the projects.

The Special Adviser said the government had mapped out alternative routes for each phase of the repairs, saying “For the first phase of the repairs, motorists heading to Ojota from Maryland/Yaba will be diverted into a counter flow on the lane inbound Maryland while motorists heading to Yaba from Ojota will continue their journeys on the same lane”.

“Alternately, motorists from Berger, Magodo, and Tollgate along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are advised to go through the Alapere/Ogudu axis inward Gbagada/Anthony Oke Bridge to descend the ramp and access Ikorodu Road to continue their journeys. Also Motorists coming from Ikeja, Oregun, and Kudirat Abiola Way are advised to use the Opebi Link Bridge to connect Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way inwards Sheraton through Maryland to access Ikorodu Road and navigate their ways”.

“Also motorists from Jibowu are advised to use the Ikorodu Road Service Lane by Mobil Fuel Station/Bertola Engineering Equipment Company to access the Gbagada/Ogudu axis to continue their journeys. Motorists from Jibowu heading to Ikeja, Magodo, Berger and Lagos Ibadan Expressway can use Maryland inwards Mobolaji Bank Anthony to link Sheraton/Opebi to Allen Avenue/Obafemi Awolowo Way and access Nurudeen Olowopopo Road to continue their journeys.

“Alternatively, after going through the Opebi Link Bridge, they can also make use of Kudirat Abiola Way to access Ikosi Road inwards Mobolaji Johnson Avenue/7up to connect Nurudeen Olowopopo Road and access their desired destinations”, he added.

In his remarks, the Lagos State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso appealed to Lagosians to desist from vandalising government property and to be patient and comply with the road diversion for a smooth flow of traffic.

He said the Lagos State Government is committed to improving the infrastructural State of Lagosians, for a modern standard of living and benefits to all Lagosians. “The Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge is a major commuter road connecting, Ikorodu, Surulere, and the Third Mainland Bridge extension”, Omotoso added.
