Oyo APC Unites on Tinubu’s Adoption, Endorses Second Term; Party Stalwarts Akintunde, Folarin others Assures Nigerians of Sustained Excellent Governance

The Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Yunus Akintunde, has affirmed that the sterling performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the need to sustain excellent governance informed his automatic adoption and endorsement as the sole Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Senator Akintunde made this known during the statewide sensitisation rallies organised by the Hope Ambassadors, Oyo State Chapter, under the leadership of Senator Teslim Folarin, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, and the State APC Chairman, Elder Olaide Abass, alongside members of the State Executive Committee and other critical stakeholders.

The rallies, which held across major centres in Oyo State, attracted prominent party leaders including Chief Mrs Florence Ajimobi, Chief Bayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, and other party faithful. Participants unanimously expressed confidence that a second-term mandate for President Tinubu would consolidate the ongoing economic and developmental repositioning of Nigeria for the benefit of all citizens.

Senator Akintunde acknowledged the desire of Nigerians for a rapid recovery from the economic challenges inherited from previous administrations. He noted, however, that the Hope Agenda and reform programmes of the Tinubu administration have begun to yield positive results, with the economy rebounding faster than anticipated and setting the stage for sustained and shared prosperity.

He emphasised that the consistent message from stakeholders at the events was the firm endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC’s sole presidential candidate in 2027, coupled with the party’s readiness and determination to win elections at all levels—national and sub-national.

According to Akintunde, while Nigerians have experienced difficult times, President Tinubu has remained empathetic and transparent about the challenges confronting the nation. He stressed that the reforms—though initially painful—are necessary and that the resilience of Nigerians is already being rewarded with visible economic improvements.

“There is no doubt that a second term for President Tinubu will further entrench sustainable development and excellent governance, consolidating the gains achieved so far and addressing early misconceptions about the administration,” he said.

At the opening ceremony of the Hope Ambassadors Sensitisation Programme held at Adeyemi Arcade, Oyo, Senator Akintunde formally moved the motion for the adoption of President Tinubu as the APC’s sole presidential candidate. The motion was seconded by Hon. Akeem Adeyemi (Skimeh) and unanimously endorsed by the party leadership and members present.

The adoption was subsequently echoed across Ogbomoso, Oke Ogun, Ibarapa, Surulere/Ogo Oluwa, Akinyele, Ona Ara, Oluyole, and the Ibadan metropolis—covering Ibadan South East, South West, North East, North West, and Ibadan North Local Governments. Past and serving Senators and House of Representatives members, including Senators Sarafadeen Alli, Abdulfatah Buhari, Femi Lanlehin, Ayo Adeseun, Hosea Agboola, and Honourables Muraina Sabauna, Segun Odebunmi (Bonvic), Wasiu Olafioye, Remi Oseni, Akin Alabi, among others, actively participated and adopted the motion.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 following his victory in a keenly contested presidential election on the platform of the APC. Since then, his administration has embarked on far-reaching security and economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms, tax restructuring, and major investments in education, infrastructure, power, health, environment, defence, and national security.

These reforms, though initially challenging, are increasingly being recognised as necessary steps toward long-term economic stability and national growth.

Senator Akintunde assured Nigerians, particularly the people of Oyo State, that all arms of government—the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary—remain committed to working with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure rapid national development, improved quality of life, and the overall wellbeing of citizens.
