Veteran broadcaster and media executive Reuben Okala has been appointed Interim National President of the International Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (IIJAA), marking a significant milestone for the professional body.

The event was held on Wednesday the 14th of January, 2026 at the International Institute of Journalism ( IIJA)Ā  Abuja campus.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Okala expressed gratitude to members of the association for the confidence reposed in him, pledging committed and visionary leadership. He assured that his tenure would focus on repositioning the association and restoring the International Institute of Journalism to its cherished place in Nigeria’s media ecosystem.

ā€œI am deeply honoured by this responsibility and will work tirelessly with the team to exceed expectations and advance the ideals of the institute,ā€ Okala said.
His appointment has been widely welcomed as a strategic boost for IIJAA, given his decades-long experience in broadcast journalism and media leadership. Stakeholders believe his stewardship will strengthen alumni engagement, promote professional excellence, and enhance the institute’s visibility.

The Patron of the association, Maj. Prof. Aku A. Amboson (rtd) charged the newly constituted Interim Executive Committee to demonstrate dedication, teamwork, and innovation in addressing the challenges confronting the association.
ā€œThe task ahead is demanding, but with commitment and collective effort, IIJ can regain its former glory,ā€ Prof. Amboson stated.

The Interim Executive Committee of IIJAA includes: Reuben Okala (President), Dr. Prince Omeni (Vice President), Ms. Flora Anne (General Secretary), Ms. Elizabeth Ndem (Assistant General Secretary), Mr. Amadi Uyi (Treasurer), Princess Joy Idam (Legal Adviser), Mr. Felix Ojo (Public Relations Officer), Ms. Charity Ikenwa O. (Assistant PRO), Mahmud Abubakar (Welfare Officer), Ms. Rachel Tokura (Auditor), Ms. Comfort Chukwule (Financial Secretary), Prophet Anuoluwapo Samuel (Special Adviser), with Prof. Amboson serving as Patron.

IIJAA brings together graduates of the International Institute of Journalism and plays a key role in fostering professional development, ethical standards, and collaboration within the media industry.

Reuben Okala is an award-winning journalist and veteran broadcaster who spent over 30 years with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). He currently serves as Head of Station, KAFTAN TV, Abuja. With his appointment, observers say the association is well-positioned to make a renewed and positive impact on Nigeria’s media landscape.
